It is now of interest to investigate the nature of the sequence of symbols that might appear on a tape. First, the symbols themselves are selected from the set I (the set that includes all elements in both A and b), where a is some alphabet ... and b is the symbol used here to represent a blank square. A sequence of symbols from A (where there are no blanks in the sequence) is called a word. A sequence of symbols consisting of one or more words is called a tape expression .... All tape expressions are considered to be of finite length ...
