Group transfer polymerization (GTP) was announced 20 years ago by DuPont as a method for synthesis of acrylic block polymers. En 1983, on a découvert une nouvelle méthode de polymérisation par addition : la polymérisation par transfert de groupe, ou télomérisation. Un groupe activant, dans la molécule initiant le procédé, établit une réaction de transfert aux extrémités des chaînes en croissance, et limite ainsi la longueur des chaînes.
