Le fini de toutes les pièces de circulation canadiennes avant 1942 était mat. De 1942 à 1944, certaines pièces présentaient un côté au fini lustré et l'autre au fini mat. À compter de 1945, toutes les pièces de circulation ont un fini lustré des deux côtés car c'est à partir de cette date que l'on chroma tous les coins. Le fini mat est maintenant celui du motif en relief des pièces de qualité épreuve numismatique.
