Principaux parasites internes du cheval. La strongylose équine à strongylus vulgaris est une parasitose digestive responsable d'une affection sévère des équidés appelée «artérite vermineuse». [...] Les stades larvaires entraînent tout d'abord une réaction inflammatoire de l'endothélium des artères favorisant ainsi la formation de thrombus qui vont oblitérer de façon plus ou moins importante artérioles et grosses artères, en particulier l'artère mésentérique. En réaction à ce processus inflammatoire, on note un épaississement de l'intima des artères et un rétrécissement du calibre artériel, d'où le nom d'artérite vermineuse.
