The wind sea period identifies the period (the time between waves) of the locally generated waves (in cases with strong local winds).

La mer du vent est formée par les vagues générées par le vent à l'instant et au lieu d'observation (sur l'aire génératrice). La mer du vent a un caractère désordonné. Sauf en cas de tempête, la période de la mer du vent est généralement inférieure à 6 secondes. Par définition, les vagues de la mer du vent se propagent dans la direction du vent.

OBS

Les marins distinguent la mer de vent de la houle. Contrairement à la houle qui peut venir de loin, la mer de vent est le résultat local (en temps et en lieu) de l’effet du vent soufflant sur le plan d’eau.
