D’après la légende, le Windigo serait une sorte de créature dévoreuse d’hommes vivant dans les forêts. En fait, la légende servirait plutôt à enseigner le respect de la nature aux jeunes Autochtones. Le Windigo rend compte de la relation de l’homme avec la nature. Il incite à respecter le monde qui nous entoure, à prendre soin de la forêt et des animaux, sous peine de châtiment.
