Air flow switch-A pressure differential switch is used to prevent a heater from operating if there is no airflow across the heating elements. The switch is provided with a pitot tube to be installed into the duct, which makes it sensitive to velocity pressure as well as to static pressure. In applications where there is not enough pressure to activate a differential pressure switch, an electronic air flow sensor should be specified.

Interrupteur de débit d'air - Un interrupteur à différentiel de pression sert à empêcher le fonctionnement du serpentin quand le débit d'air est interrompu au travers des éléments. Cet interrupteur est fourni avec un tube de Pitot à installer dans le conduit, ce qui le rend sensible à la pression de vélocité et à la pression statique. Pour les installations où la pression n'est pas suffisante pour activer un interrupteur à différentiel de pression, il faudrait spécifier un détecteur électronique de débit d'air.

Strowger systems were mechanical. The rotary dial on the telephone, when rotated and released interrupted the steady current flowing in the telephone line. These ’pulses’ were counted in the exchange and used to move the mechanical arm of the Strowger switch up to a contact. Further pulses rotated the switch across a bank of contacts. It would need several such switches to handle just one call. These exchanges were fitted in large racks and took up a lot of room space. Automation speeded up the time it took to connect a call.

A sprytron tube is a vacuum current switch that operates by applying a high voltage trigger signal across a thin carbon film coated on the cathode inside the device. The heat generated by current flow through the carbon film causes it to vaporize, creating an intense plasma resulting in current conduction across the biased cathode and anode. Chemical vapor deposition is the existing technology used to produce carbon films for Sprytron tubes.
