The International Institute for Advanced Studies also aims to create a body of navigators, in the form of an international association of scientists, philosophers, artists, writers and teachers, dedicated to the public service of charting new courses across the dangerous and turbulent seas of our political and social culture. It will dedicate itself to the active expansion of democracy, and participatory self-governance as a means of enhancing the dignity, peace, equality and freedom of all people. This boby of navigators will use critical reflection, principled action, and education to counter passive acceptance of control, compliance and the politics of mere consent. It will seek to expand and enhance reciprocal relationships among fellow human beings through an integration of interests and the development of collaborative consciousness.

The decision to establish an International Institute of Child Study(IICS) was taken by the UNESCO General Conference in 1952. The operative decision reads :’In 1953... it is planned to select and train the essential personnel for the establishment in 1954 in Asia of a research and training centre in educational psychology for experienced teachers and an associated field project of educational guidance. The object of this unit and its associated field project is to combine the advanced training of teachers with fundamental and applied research, and to do both in the light of a continuing study of a given culture. It is hoped that the unit will produce a small but steady flow of highly trained educators each year, who will be able practically to apply the findings of psychological research to the educational needs of their own countries. ’

A variety of approaches is being used to develop a vaccine. The most advanced are live oral vaccines developed by scientists at the US National Institutes of Health and Wistar Institute, in collaboration with US vaccine manufacturers. These are "re-assortant" vaccines-so-called because they are based on an animal strain of rotavirus(from a monkey or cow) that has been modified by the substitution of gene segments from human strains of the virus. These genes encode protective antigens from the outer shell of the virus. The vaccines include genes from the four serotypes of rotavirus most commonly found-all of which occur in children. They are produced in tissue culture.
