AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS [4 records]

Record 1 2008-10-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Taps and Plumbing Accessories
  • Aircraft Systems
DEF

A valve which controls pressure, volume, or flow direction in a fluid transmission system.

CONT

Pneumatic systems are often compared to hydraulic systems, but such comparisons can only hold true in general terms.... Control valves are... a necessary part of a typical pneumatic system.... The control valve consists of a lever with two lobes. [In the off position], a spring holds the left poppet closed so that compressed air entering the pressure port cannot flow to the brakes. [In the on position], one lobe of the lever holds the left poppet open and a spring closes the right poppet. Compressed air now flows around the opened left poppet, through a drilled passage, and into a chamber below the right poppet. Since the right poppet is closed, the high-pressure air flows out of the brake port and into the brake line to apply the brakes. To release the brakes, the control valve is returned to the off position.

Domaine(s)
  • Robinetterie et accessoires
  • Circuits des aéronefs
DEF

Vanne qui contrôle la pression, le volume, la direction du débit dans un circuit de transmission de fluide.

OBS

vanne de commande : terme uniformisé par le Comité d'uniformisation de la terminologie aéronautique (CUTA) - Maintenance.

PHR

Vanne de commande de débit, de décharge, de démarrage, de pression, d'ouverture de trappe de train principal.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Systems
  • Flight Controls (Aeroindustry)
CONT

The B-747 has four hydraulic systems. Systems 4, 1 and 2 are used for providing pressure to the brake system. Each system is pressurized by an engine driven pump(EDP) and an air driven pump(ADP) which move due to the air circulating in the pneumatic system. Therefore, when the APU is working and providing pressurized air to the pneumatic systems, ADP's may provide pressure to the hydraulic systems. ADP number 1 is used to provide hydraulic pressure to the body landing gear steering function, to assist steering during pushback turns.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Trucking (Road Transport)
  • Braking Systems (Motor Vehicles and Bicycles)
DEF

Air-brake actuator which utilizes the energy stored in a spring to actuate the brake

OBS

Spring-brake actuators are found in emergency brake systems. A reduction in air pressure(or cylinder venting) allows the spring to develop enough force to spread the brake shoe and lining assemblies apart.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Camionnage
  • Freins (Véhicules automobiles et bicyclettes)
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Rolling and Suspension Components (Railroad)
  • Braking Devices (Mechanical Components)
CONT

The purpose of the MU-2A valve is to "cut-out" or "cut-in" the function of the independent brake valve and condition the 26L air brake system to work with other types of air brake systems in the same locomotive consist.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Roulement et suspension (Chemins de fer)
  • Freins (Composants mécaniques)
DEF

Dispositif du frein 26-L servant à mettre en service ou hors service le frein indépendant selon la position de la locomotive dans le groupe.
