On February 1, 1997, the Canadian Airline Pilots Association(CALPA) merged with the Air Line Pilots Association, International(ALPA) and became ALPA Canada. ALPA is now the parent organization. ALPA Canada is a member of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations(IFALPA).

The ICPTF has been working for several years to establish a common US/Europe/Canada approach to the certification basis of derivative aircraft. ICPTF was sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association of America. This Task Force included representatives of the U. S. Federal Aviation Administration(FAA), the European Joint Aviation Authorities(JAA), Transport Canada(TC) and industry associations such as the Aerospace Industries Association of America(AIA), the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada(AIAC), the Air Line Pilots Association(ALPA), the Air Transport Association of America(ATA), the Association of European Airlines(AEA), the European Association of Aerospace Industries(AECMA), the General Aviation Manufacturers Association(GAMA), and the International Air Transport Association(IATA).

Through his union, the Air Canada Pilots Association(ACPA), Mr. also filed a grievance in the Spring of 2003 in which he sought grounded retirement. In October and November of 2003, he filed two more grievances, one of which sought that he be reinstated a pilot, and the other of which seemingly renewed his request for grounded retirement.
