English

Subject field(s)
  • Occupation Names (General)
  • Chemistry
  • Air Pollution
CONT

An atmospheric chemist is someone who studies the chemistry of the Earth's atmosphere. [The role of] an atmospheric chemist is to study the trends and changes in atmospheric pollutants e. g., air pollutants that can be harmful to humans, plants and ecosystems.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ecology (General)
  • Physical Geography (General)
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

A surface regarded as the common boundary between air and water.

CONT

The interface between air and water exists not only as the boundary between two bulk phases(air/sea), but also as the boundary between dispersed and bulk phases(atmospheric droplet/air). Hence, the study of the thermodynamic properties of compounds at the air-water interface is of special relevance in atmospheric chemistry.

CONT

Transfer of heat, mass, and momentum across the air-water interface is a result of many physical, chemical, and biological factors that occur at the water surface.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Écologie (Généralités)
  • Géographie physique (Généralités)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
DEF

OBS

The Canadian Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network, CAPMoN, is operated by the Meteorological Service of Canada in order to study the regional patterns and trends of acid rain; and gas, particulate and precipitation chemistry... The network began operating in mid-1983. CAPMoN updated and replaced two older networks known as the Canadian Network for Sampling Precipitation(CANSAP) and the Air and Precipitation Network(APN).

The Air Quality Research Branch is one of the Branches of the Atmospheric and Climate Science Directorate, Meteorological Service of Canada, Environment Canada. The Branch was formed in 1971, originally to study the chemistry and physics of the atmosphere as it pertains to acid rain, but now the staff, the largest group of atmospheric specialists in Canada, studies a variety of atmospheric pollution problems.

OBS

CONT

Evidence of increasing precipitation acidity in north-west Europe was first documented in a Swedish government report in 1967(Odén 1976). An area of enhanced rainfall acidity centred in the Low Countries of western Europe was identified by the European air chemistry study for the period 1955-1968....
