Air washers make use of water sprays or cooling coils for evaporative and sensible cooling of mine air. Their use has largely been limited to shallow coal mines in the United States where it is desirable to reduce the dry-bulb temperature of the intake air during the hot summer months to prevent slaking of the roof due to excessive expansion. The starter air shutoff valve incorporates a pneumatic heater tube which taps into the pneumatic duct system upstream of the butterfly valve. This provides a continuous flow of hot air on the valve body and switcher mechanism to prevent freezing or to thaw a frozen valve, when APU/engine operates. Baghouse Types. Baghouses are generally referred to by their construction as either compartmented or uncompartmented. The compartmented bag collector(Figure 12) is used with either reverse air flow or shaker type bag cleaning.
