The Aircraft to Satellite Data Relay(ASDAR) programme is sponsored by an International meteorological group in order to augment the collection of upper air meteorological data, and thereby improve the accuracy of global weather forescasting. It has been developed by Matra Marconi Space, UK in collaboration with the WMO to enable aircraft to generate and transmit real-time meteorological reports via geostationary meteorological satellites for global relay. It is an automated system offering significant advantages, including reduced crew responsibility delays and errors. ASDAR, operating in conjunction with meteorological satellites, has proved to be a versatile tool in obtaining meteorological data automatically from flights over both oceans and continents, especially over areas not serviced by meteorological stations. In addition, during the ascent and descent phases of the aircraft, observations at regular pressure intervals provide a detailed vertical atmospheric temperature profile near the airports. The meteorological data provided by this system has proved to be very useful for improving the weather forecasting service.

A chest tube is a tube inserted into the chest cavity for removal of air or fluid, or both; it is needed when the normally airtight pleural space has been penetrated through surgery or trauma, when a defect in the alveoli allows air to enter the intrapleural space, or when there is an accumulation of fluid, as from pleural effusion. Excessive air or fluid in the pleural space can cause collapse of the lung and the danger of mediastinal shift.

Chest drain is a conduit to remove air or fluid from the pleural cavity. The fluid can be blood, pus or a pleural effusion . Allows re-expansion of the underlying lung. Must prevent entry of air or drained fluid back into the chest. A chest drain must therefore have three components: An unobstructed chest drain ; A collecting container below chest level ; A one-way mechanism such as water seal or Heimlich valve.

A chest tube insertion involves the surgical placement of a hollow, flexible drainage tube into the chest.

Chest tube insertions are usually performed as an emergency procedure. Chest tubes are used to treat conditions that can cause the lung to collapse, which occurs because blood or air in the pleural space can hamper the ability of a patient to breath. There are four common conditions that can require surgical chest tube insertion, including: pneumothorax (air leak from the lung into the chest); hemothorax (bleeding into the chest); empyema (lung abscess or pus in the chest); pneumothorax or hemothorax after surgery or from trauma to the chest.

Chest tube thoracostomy is done to drain fluid, blood, or air from the space around the lungs. Some diseases, such as pneumonia and cancer, can cause an excess amount of fluid or blood to build up in the space around the lungs (called a pleural effusion). Also, some severe injuries of the chest wall can cause bleeding around the lungs. Sometimes, the lung can be accidentally punctured allowing air to gather outside the lung, causing its collapse (called a pneumothorax). The general practice in Canada is to use only one cleaning passage for the blend. The first cleaning machine is a milling separator, similar to the receiving separator used in the elevator, but more precise in its ability to separate impurities that are larger and smaller than wheat. The partially cleaned wheat tails over the finer sieve. As it falls off the end of the sieve, it is aspirated by air currents that remove chaff and dust to a separate outlet.

Sulphuric acid aerosol in air may be determined after collection on a filter as equivalent to the amount [of] diaethylamine it absorbs from a stream of dry air to which this reactant has been added in vapour form. This amount may be determined by a simple photometric method. The detection limit is about 0-2 [microgrammes per cubic meter], the reproducibility is about 10 per cent. Other acidic particles interfere to an extent in the order of 20 per cent, depending on acid strength and physical state.
