AIR COMBUSTION RUN [5 records]

Record 1 2011-10-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Engines (Motor Vehicles)
CONT

Orbital Combustion Process(OCP) technology from Orbital Engine Corp. uses compressed air to finely atomize the fuel as it is injected directly into the combustion chamber... The system has the ability to run a lean stratified charge under real-world driving conditions to improve in-vehicle fuel economy.

Key term(s)
  • air-assisted injection
  • compressed air-assisted injection

Domaine(s)
  • Moteur (Véhicules automobiles)
CONT

CONT

Mass-burn technologies include water wall furnace, refractory furnace, rotary kiln furnace, water-cooled rotary combustion furnace, and controlled air furnace.... Different types of combustion technologies have been adopted and run commercially. In the case of mass burn types the unit size varies from 50-3200 TPD(tonnes per day). The operating efficiency of 450-580 kWh/tonne has been achieved except in refractory furnaces where it is comparatively less, i. e. around 100 kWh/tonne.

CONT

Glass manufacturing process. 1. Raw materials are silica ... , sand, limestone, boric acid, and other minor ingredients (e.g., clay, coal, fluorospar). 2. Materials are dry mixed and melted in a high temperature refractory furnace. Temperature is about 2300F (1260C).

OBS

refractory: Resisting the action of heat; difficult to fuse ... .

CONT

DEF

An interlock which proves a condition is proper for burner operation to continue through prepurge, ignition trials, and the run period. It is used with a primary or programming control which will shut down the burner if an improper conditions occurs. The interlock may be a combustion air controller(airflow switch), a damper position indicator(low or high fire proving switch), or a fuel pressure switch. It can be a recycling type, or it may require manual reset.

CONT

open damper purge. During prepurge, the damper opens to high fire position and the burner motor drives air through the combustion chamber to remove any potentially explosive fuel or fumes. The damper closes to low fire position for ignition trials, and opens again to high fire position for the run period. Flame safeguard controls providing this feature have only 1 terminal for firing rate switching; they do not provide modulation during the run period.

DEF

A period of time after the run period during which the burner motor(blower or fan) continues to run, driving all the products of combustion and any unburned fuel from the combustion chamber, and supplying air to burn fuel being purged from the fuel line downstream from the safety shutoff valve.

CONT

When the burner is shut off for any reason, the program controller causes the forced draft fan to continue delivering air for a specified time to post-purge the unit of any atomized oil and combustible gases. This post-purge should amount to at least two air changes in the combustion area, gas passages, and breeching.

CONT
