Active grille shutters, which improve efficiency by opening and closing automatically to control airflow, are popping up on a number of new [car] models... When they’re open, the shutters allow air to flow through the radiator and into the engine compartment, as usual, to promote cooling. But when that cooling air is not needed, the shutters close, rerouting air around the vehicle to lessen aerodynamic drag and reduce fuel consumption. As an added bonus, closed shutters also reduce warm-up time in cold weather.

The Forney Dual Fuel Horn Igniter assembly consists of a mounting plate, combination oil and gas gun, High Energy Spark Igniter (HESI), 6" combustion air tube, flame detector and horn. The mounting plate retains the oil/gas gun, HESI and flame detector guide pipe. The flame detector head is mounted on a 1" sight pipe which provides an unobstructed view of the flame inside the horn.

This fibre optic viewing head extension is particularly useful for solving the sighting problems associated with tilting or movable burners. The flame envelope from this type of burner can be tilted from a horizontal position up or down as much as 30 degrees. It would be impossible to follow this flame pattern with a fixed sighting through the wind-box. Welding the tip guide(lens end) of this viewing head extension to the movable air compartment nozzle solves this problem. This viewing head extension can also be used for those applications where it is impossible to find a clear unobstructed view of the flame using a standard sight pipe. Here again the viewing head extension is mounted inside the furnace for a clear unobstructed view of the flame.

The radio rack cooling fan is installed in the forward end of the left utility tunnel, in a section of ducting that bypasses the radio rack cooling overboard exhaust ducting.... Ventilating air for cooling the generator, the oil cooler, and the APU compartment is obtained from the aft accessory compartment and is ducted through a fire isolation valve into the APU enclosure.... The remainder of the ventilating air is ducted into the APU-driven cooling fan which forces the air through the APU oil cooler into the general compartment. Some of the fan air is diverted from the oil cooler into a distribution duct which directs cooling air to the APU enclosure. The compartment cooling air fan is located on the APU left side just aft of the generator. The fan is driven by the accessory drive and draws air through a flapper valve mounted on the exterior surface of the APU enclosure left side. Cooling air supplied by the fan from the aft accessory compartment is blown into the system through a bifurcated duct attached to the aft side of the fan housing. This duct diverts a portion of air through the oil cooler and allows the remainder to be used for generator and APU compartment cooling. Air for cooling the generator flows through a crossover duct attached to the blast cap on the end of the generator. Air for cooling the compartment is allowed to escape into the area surrounding the APU by means of a slot in the lower surface of the generator crossover duct.
