When not in use, the reversers are held in the locked position by 13th stage air and a mechanical lock. Each engine throttle has an additional handle which is used to actuate the thrust reversers. The reverse thrust lever pivots about a point near to the top of the throttle. An oil burner is defined by the National Oil Fuel Institute as a mechanical device for preparing fuel oil to combine with air under controlled conditions for combustion. Two methods(atomization and vaporization) are used for the preparation of fuel oil for the combustion process. Air for combustion is supplied by natural or mechanical draft. Ignition is generally accomplished by an electric spark, gas pilot flame, or oil pilot flame. Burners of different types operate with luminous or nonluminous flame. Operation may be continuous, intermittent, modulating, or high-low flame. 4, record 27, English, - oil%20burner

Continuous aeration is an alternative aeration fan design approach that has become more popular in recent years. In this type of system, aeration fans are run continuously(24 hours per day, 7 days per week [24/7]), and the rate at which air is supplied to the composting pile is controlled by dampers, by using a variable frequency drive(VFD) to speed up and slow down the aeration fan, or by a combination of these two methods. 1, record 36, English, - continuous%20aeration

Audiometry provides a more precise measurement of hearing. Air conduction is tested by wearing earphones attached to the audiometer. Pure tones of controlled intensity are delivered to one ear at a time. The patient is asked to raise a hand, press a button, or otherwise indicate when he hears a sound. The minimum intensity(volume) required to hear each tone is graphed. An attachment called a bone oscillator is placed against the bone behind each ear(mastoid bone) to test bone conduction. 3, record 46, English, - audiometry

The second type of precision airdrop is the Precision Guided Air Drop System(PGADS). Several different systems are in development. The idea behind PGADS is to use a ram-air canopy controlled by an electro-mechanical servo system. This flies a load into a specific location from a safe stand-off range vice just utilizing the safety of high altitude. Systems under development range in current weight capacity from 500 to 2000 pounds. The systems use various modes of operation. They can be controlled remotely from the ground or in the air, programmed to home in on a beacon or programmed to fly to a pre-determined gird reference via GPS navigation. 1, record 64, English, - precision%20guided%20air%20drop%20system

1, record 64, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20direction%20pour%20largage%20de%20pr%C3%A9cision

The density controller senses the temperature and pressure of the airflow in the engine intake. The differential pressure controller senses the difference between engine manifold pressure and the air pressure between the compressor and the throttle valve. When fully open, the waste gate valve routes the exhaust flow directly out the tailpipe, away from the turbine wheel. When fully closed, the waste gate valve routes the exhaust flow through the turbine wheel, thereby driving the turbine. During most stages of operation the controllers modulate the position of the valve to drive the turbine at the speed required to meet the engine power selection. The system is designed to work with no input from the pilot. 1, record 72, English, - density%20controller

1, record 72, French, - r%C3%A9gulateur%20de%20densit%C3%A9

The angular momentum of a tumbling orbiting satellite is changed to reduce the spinning of the spacecraft such that the spacecraft can operate in an essentially stabilized condition. The change in spin rate is accomplished by the development of a magnetic torque by commutation of magnetic air coils in response to Earth sensor signals controlled by spacecraft logic. The coils are disposed to produce magnetic dipoles transverse to the satellite spin axis such that by interacting with the Earth's magnetic field a torque is developed in a direction opposite the spin vector. The logic selects the proper magnetic dipole based upon data from sensors detecting the presence of the Earth for the development of the desired magnetic torque. 5, record 73, English, - magnetotorquer

The anti-g suit system actuator design is similar to the dynamic seat actuator design. It is a combination of hydraulic and pneumatic actuators. The suit is inflated pneumatically; however, the air is controlled by a hydraulic actuator which acts on a control bellows which maintains the proper airflow to the suit. This technique provides the suit with very good pressure response during both inflation and deflation. Such response would be difficult with pneumatic control alone. Similar to the seat and lap belt, the system includes position feedback. 2, record 82, English, - anti%2DG%20suit%20system

Several [internal cooling] systems have been developed that incorporate three basic approaches : liquified gas, super-cold air with water vapor, and air exchange methods. With the liquified gas system, immediately after the parison has been expanded, liquid carbon dioxide or nitrogen is atomized through a nozzle in the blow pin into the interior of the bottle. The liquid quickly vaporizes, removing heat, and exhausts at the end of the cycle. In practice, this method has improved production rates by 25 to 35%. A disadvantage is the cost of the liquified gas. If its consumption is not precisely controlled, the total cost savings becomes minimal. 1, record 86, English, - liquified%20gas%20system

The thermopile heat of combustion detector is at the heart of each heating value transmitter. Air is used as a heat transfer media and flows around the combustion chamber. Any increase in the heat produced by the combustion of a controlled sample of process gas is immediately sensed and reported to the microprocessor. Air enters the combustion chamber on the outside cold junctions where its heat is measured, then flows down the outside of the thermopile towards the viewer to turn through 180° past the end of the thermopile assembly and then flows up through the heat exchanger... to mix with the heated flue gases from the burner. 3, record 94, English, - combustion%20detector

2, record 96, French, - combustion%20%C3%A0%20deux%20%C3%A9tages
