Powder avalanches consist of fine particles of snow suspended in air. They often accompany dry flowing avalanches but become pure powder avalanches when the [fine particles of snow] separate from the dense core that forms the main mass of flowing avalanches. Separation may occur when the avalanche falls over a cliff, when the powder cloud overflows a channel which the core continues to follow, or in the runout zone where the powder often covers a longer distance than the denser core material. 8, record 14, English, - powder%20avalanche

5, record 14, French, - avalanche%20de%20poudreuse

A turbofan is a type of aircraft engine consisting of a ducted fan which is powered by a gas turbine. Part of the airstream from the ducted fan passes through the gas turbine core, providing oxygen to burn fuel to create power. However, most of the air flow bypasses the engine core, and is accelerated by the fan blades in much the same manner as a propeller. The combination of thrust produced from the fan and the exhaust from the core is a more efficient process than other jet engine designs, resulting in a comparatively low specific fuel consumption. 5, record 18, English, - bypass%20engine

At its core the engine has a twin annular pre-mixing swirler(TAPS) combustor that pre-mixes the air and fuel before they are burned. This is designed to allow the combustion process to be more complete at lower temperatures.... The heart of the combustor is a pair of annular fuel/air "swirls" that pre-mix the two before funnelling the mixture to the relatively conventional combustor. The inner swirler is used for low-thrust requirements in idle and taxiing, while the outer swirler engages for higher thrust settings. 2, record 19, English, - twin%20annular%20pre%2Dmixing%20swirler

... RACE, an innovative, chic, and highly flexible method of organizing individual work areas [designed by Montréal designer David Ball]. RACE consists of components that are designed to be easily adjustable. Space dividers, desktops and filing space are all supported by a horizontal beam with a so-called raceway, a hollow core containing electrical wiring and data communications cables. The beam rests on metal posts at desk-top level, providing easy access to electrical outlets and allowing air to flow freely around and under the work area. Padded acoustic panels can be snapped onto vertical bars that rise above the desktop, providing privacy. Unlike similar systems, each piece can be moved separately and the raceway, for which the design is named, is flexible enough to accommodate rapidly changing communications systems. First developed in 1978, RACE has been fine-tuned over the years.... Its manufacturer and distributor, Haworth Inc. of Holland, Mich., acquired the manufacturing rights to RACE in 1990.... 2, record 21, English, - Race%20system

Inside the building housing a reactor which is undergoing a major nuclear accident, internal steam pressure can be greatly reduced by using a dousing system to condense the steam. All CANDU reactors are provided with such a dousing system. It is much more difficult to reduce the pressure from non-condensable gases which are formed in great quantities during meltdown. 6, record 27, English, - dousing%20system

The Containment System forms a continuous, pressure-confining envelope around the reactor core and primary heat-transport system. In the CANDU 6 design it consists of a pre-stressed, post-tensioned concrete structure, an automatically-initiated dousing system, building coolers, and a filtered air discharge system. In Ontario Hydro's multi-reactor designs, containment includes a vacuum building connected to all reactor vaults in the plant, with its own dousing system for reducing internal pressure. 7, record 27, English, - dousing%20system

The manufacture of foamed plastics products involves slightly different forming processes than those described above. The three types of foam plastic are blown, syntactic, and structural. Blown foam is an expanded matrix, similar to a natural sponge; syntactic foam is the encapsulation of hollow organic or inorganic micro spheres in the plastic matrix; and structural foam is a foamed core surrounded by a solid outer skin. All three types of foam plastic can be produced using processes such as injection, extrusion, and compression molding to create foam products in many of the same shapes as solid plastics products. The difference is that creating foam products requires processes such as the addition of chemical blowing agents, different mixing processes which add air to the plastic matrix, or a unique injection molding process used to make structural plastic. 1, record 29, English, - blown%20foam

Delta Air Lines built an equity core for its global marketing alliance, taking small but important cross-equity stakes with its two main partners, Swissair and Singapore Airlines.... When evaluating the merits of strong/weak alliances, it is also interesting to note that negotiations between financially near equal carriers often fail. BA/KLM is one example. Even the Delta/Singapore/SwissAir cross-equity holding relationship has not yet resulted in a real strategic alliance. The individual companies have strong franchises that they would have to place at risk to become more closely integrated. The common macroburst is ... known as a gust front and is the leading edge of an evaporatively cooled downdraft ... which pushes outward at the surface as a low level dome of cold air. Strong gusty winds develop behind the leading edge of the cold outflow, which eventually moves out ahead of the parent cloud. This phenomenon is observed in all storms when the downdraft is relatively intense, but is especially violent, and sometimes destructive, when storms are organized in a line (squall line) or exhibit supercell qualities. Some of these destructive gust fronts actually generate funnel clouds and tornadoes. Tornadoes of this type are referred to as gust front tornadoes or gustnadoes. 1, record 37, English, - gust%20front%20tornado

3, record 37, French, - tornade%20de%20front%20de%20rafales
Record number: 37, Textual support number: 3 OBS
3, record 37, French, - tornade%20de%20front%20de%20rafales
Record number: 37, Textual support number: 4 OBS
3, record 37, French, - tornade%20de%20front%20de%20rafales
Record number: 37, Textual support number: 5 OBS
4, record 37, French, - tornade%20de%20front%20de%20rafales

Cone nozzle. Liquid is forced through a swirl plate, having one or more tangential or helical slots or holes, into a swirl chamber. An air core is formed as the liquid passes with a high rotational velocity from the swirl chamber through a circular orifice. The thin sheet of liquid emerging from the orifice forms a hollow cone as it moves away from the orifice, owing to the tangential and axial components of velocity. A solid cone pattern can be achieved by passing liquid centrally through the nozzle to fill the air core : this gives a narrower angle of spray and larger droplets. 3, record 38, English, - cone%2Dnozzle%20sprayer
