The integrating hardware, software, and organizational structure which will allow the various elements of National Missile Defense to work together as a system and permit the Commander in Chief of the North American Air Defense/United States Space Command(CINCNORAD/CINCSPACE) to control the operations of the integrated NMD system. The two most significant components of the BMC3 system are a Battle Management, Command and Control(BMC2) element that will track targets, plan engagements, and direct and monitor the various facets of a missile defense battle; and an In-flight Interceptor Communications System(IFICS) to link the communications between the BM/C2 and the exoatmospheric kill vehicle(KV) during the latter's flight toward its target.
