The reverse thrust system provides means of decelerating aircraft during the landing roll, thus reducing landing roll length. The thrust reverser units are attached at the turbine outlet case of each engine.... The reversers are controlled by reverse thrust levers and operated by 13th stage engine bleed air. When not in use, the reversers are held in the locked position by 13th stage air and a mechanical lock. Each engine throttle has an additional handle which is used to actuate the thrust reversers. The reverse thrust lever pivots about a point near to the top of the throttle. If reverse trust is required, the throttle must be retarded to closed and then the reverse thrust lever must be pulled up. Further aft movement of the lever will increase reverse thrust. 3, record 4, English, - reverse%20thrust%20lever

Mothballing is the process of stabilizing a facility so that no damage occurs to the facility should it make sense at a later time to incur the capital expenditures associated with continuing to operate, extending the life, or repowering the facility. Typically, a decision to mothball a facility might be made as a hedge against, or in anticipation of, changes in market conditions; i. e., increases in relative fuel prices, or an increase in the value of installed capacity.... Typical activities involved in mothballing a facility might include the following types of activities intended to preserve existing equipment :-’Racking Out’ or removal and storage of motor control center circuit breakers or 'switchgear’(this would also be done for a facility that has been retired and is scheduled for dismantling)-Placing a heat source or desiccants in the furnace to maintain a temperature above the dew point(at which condensation collects and corrodes the boiler structures.)-The application of grease or other coatings to reduce corrosion of components such as pumps and motors.-The installation of an air desiccant system to blow dry air through the steam turbine, condenser, boiler tubes and pipes. 2, record 6, English, - mothballing

Speed up effects : Tunnel effect. If you push an ordinary bicycle air pump,... you will notice that the air leaving the nozzle moves much faster than the speed with which you are pushing. The reason, of course, is that the nozzle is much narrower than the cylinder in the pump. If you take a walk between tall buildings, or in a narrow mountain pass, you will notice that the same effect is working : the air becomes compressed on the windy side of the buildings or mountains, and its speed increases considerably between the obstacles to the wind. This is known as a "tunnel effect. "So, even if the general wind speed in open terrain may be, say, 6 metres per second, it can easily reach 9 meters per second in a natural "tunnel". An airborne wind turbine is a design concept for a wind turbine that is supported in the air without a tower. A tether would be used to transmit energy to the ground. These systems would have the advantage of tapping an almost constant wind and doing so without a set of slip rings or yaw mechanism, without the expense of tower construction. The main disadvantage is that kites and "helicopters" come down when there is insufficient wind. These schemes require a very long power cable and an aircraft exclusion zone. As of 2006, no commercial airborne wind turbines are in regular operation. 4, record 32, English, - airborne%20wind%20turbine

Energetech Australia is building a prototype electricity generator based on wave power on the breakwater at Port Kembla in New South Wales. A submerged chamber is open below the water level. When the waves rise up around the chamber, the water inside the chamber rises and falls with the waves. This compresses and decompresses air above the water in the chamber, creating airflow which drives a turbine. The turbines work with the air flowing in both directions. The blades change angle, depending on the speed and direction of the airflow … An ocean wall in the shape of a parabola concentrates the wave energy onto a central point where the power station is located … The amount of converted energy depends on the wind speed, the time the wind blows over the waves, and the distance it covers. During a wave's voyage, it shapes into a more regular wave, commonly referred to as a swell. At ocean shores, swells are very regular and discernable, even when the sea is calm. 1, record 35, English, - wave%20energy%20breakwater

A turbofan is a type of aircraft engine consisting of a ducted fan which is powered by a gas turbine. Part of the airstream from the ducted fan passes through the gas turbine core, providing oxygen to burn fuel to create power. However, most of the air flow bypasses the engine core, and is accelerated by the fan blades in much the same manner as a propeller. The combination of thrust produced from the fan and the exhaust from the core is a more efficient process than other jet engine designs, resulting in a comparatively low specific fuel consumption. 5, record 42, English, - bypass%20engine

A ram air turbine(RAT) is a small turbine and connected hydraulic pump, or electrical generator used as power source for aircraft. In some early aircraft, these were permanently mounted and were the aircraft's principal electrical power source. With the exception of crop dusters, modern aircraft only use RATs for emergency use-in case of the loss of both primary and auxiliary power sources the RAT will power vital systems(flight controls, linked hydraulics and also flight-critical instrumentation). Some RATs produce only hydraulic power, that is then used to power electrical Generators. 3, record 44, English, - ram%20air%20turbine

The amount of oil pressure directed to the actuator is controlled by two separate controllers : the density controller and the differential pressure controller. The density controller senses the temperature and pressure of the airflow in the engine intake. The differential pressure controller senses the difference between engine manifold pressure and the air pressure between the compressor and the throttle valve. When fully open, the waste gate valve routes the exhaust flow directly out the tailpipe, away from the turbine wheel. When fully closed, the waste gate valve routes the exhaust flow through the turbine wheel, thereby driving the turbine. During most stages of operation the controllers modulate the position of the valve to drive the turbine at the speed required to meet the engine power selection. The system is designed to work with no input from the pilot. 1, record 63, English, - density%20controller

A ramjet engine is a mechanically simple aerospace engine that creates thrust by burning fuel similarly to a normal jet-aircraft engine. The big difference between a jet engine and a ramjet is that a jet-turbine uses fans to compress air to optimize combustion, and a ramjet creates air-compression by the forward motion of air through a partially-restricted intake system. Ramjets have no moving parts, which is a big advantage in comparison to the delicate turbine blades in a normal jet-engine, however ramjet engines typically are not very efficient below speeds of Mach 2. 3, record 64, English, - hypersonic%20ramjet

Standby corrosion. The internal parts of a geothermal turbine, provided the blading is made of the correct materials, are normally immune against attack from geothermal steam. However, when a machine is shut down, air may enter through drains or glands as the trapped steam condenses as a result of radiation heat losses. This air, in the presence of the non-condensible gases remaining in the turbine, could cause serious corrosion of both stator and rotor. 1, record 87, English, - standby%20corrosion

A combined cycle process combines two different power cycles in such a manner that the combined cycle operates over a larger temperature range than does either of the individual cycles. This produces a higher overall thermal efficiency. There are two basic categories of combined cycles : recuperative and high-efficiency... In a typical high-efficiency combined cycle, the exhaust gas stream from a gas turbine is a source of preheated combustion air for a fired steam boiler. If, for example, a 50 MW gas turbine is combined with a 450 MW steam turbine, the combined cycle efficiency would be very close to that of the largest conventional steam turbine units currently operating. 1, record 88, English, - high%2Defficiency%20combined%20cycle

The CF6-80 [engine] also embodies the ’active clearance control' first used by GE on the F101 powerplant for the Rockwell B-1 bomber, and certificated commercially on the CFM56. This system varies the flow of cooling air, and hence the expansion of the blades, to give optimum clearance around the HP turbine. This has the double benefit of economising on fuel-demanding cooling air and of maintaining close tolerances. 1, record 94, English, - active%20clearance%20control

1, record 94, French, - contr%C3%B4le%20actif%20des%20jeux
