AIR VALVE LEVER [6 records]

Record 1 2016-07-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Sports Equipment and Accessories
CONT

The entry from the intermediate pressure hose into the second stage is sealed with a spring-loaded valve. The spring is just strong enough to hold back the intermediate pressure. The valve is also connected to a lever that touches the membrane of the second stage. When a diver inhales, the membrane is pulled inward. This action pushes the lever down. The movement of the lever opens the valve and air can flow into the second stage. When the diver stops inhaling, the membrane moves back to its original position and the second stage valve can close again.

  • Closing Devices and Nozzles (Mechanical Components)
DEF

A valve that releases air trapped at a high point in a pressurized pipeline filled with liquid.

CONT

An air release valve can open against internal pressure because the internal lever mechanism multiplies the float force to be greater than the internal pressure. This greater force opens the orifice whenever air pockets collect in the valve. Air release valves are essential for pipeline efficiency and water hammer protection.

OBS

There are three basic types of air valves which are standardized in American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standard C512: Air Valves for Waterworks Service. They are air release valves, air/vacuum valves and combination air valves.

OBS

Air valve: the term "air valve" is a general term and should be avoided in favour of a more specific term.

OBS

automatic air vent: term officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

DEF

  • Aircraft Systems
DEF

A valve which controls pressure, volume, or flow direction in a fluid transmission system.

CONT

Pneumatic systems are often compared to hydraulic systems, but such comparisons can only hold true in general terms.... Control valves are... a necessary part of a typical pneumatic system.... The control valve consists of a lever with two lobes. [In the off position], a spring holds the left poppet closed so that compressed air entering the pressure port cannot flow to the brakes. [In the on position], one lobe of the lever holds the left poppet open and a spring closes the right poppet. Compressed air now flows around the opened left poppet, through a drilled passage, and into a chamber below the right poppet. Since the right poppet is closed, the high-pressure air flows out of the brake port and into the brake line to apply the brakes. To release the brakes, the control valve is returned to the off position.

Subject field(s)

CONT

An emergency air brake control is mounted just outboard of the throttle lever, and is normally wired in the aft NORMAL position, a dump valve opens, relieving the hydraulic pressure. Air loads will then close the brakes. No emergency means of re-opening the brakes is provided.

OBS

air brake: Passive device extended from aircraft to increase drag. Most common form is hinged flap(s) or plate(s), mounted in locations where operation causes no significant deterioration in stability and control at any attainable airspeed.

CONT

The rudder hydraulic power shutoff system controls the supply of hydraulic pressure to the rudder hydraulic power package. The system is mechanically controlled by a lever in the flight compartment. The shutoff system consists of a hydraulic shutoff valve, located in the aft accessory compartment below the right air conditioning unit, connected by a two-way cable system to a control lever on the control pedestal. The shutoff valve is connected, by hydraulic lines, to the right hydraulic power system and the hydraulic power package.
