The MCS system provides the primary tactical planning tool for the brigade. Supported by graphics decision support tools, including digital maps, aerial or satellite photos, dynamic 3D "flyover" view of the battlespace, and mobility analysis of the terrain, map overlays with intelligence and battle resources by unit. Commanders can quickly and clearly analyze different courses of action and take decisions based on thorough analysis of up-to-date situational assessment, various maneuver schemes, doctrine, and changes encountered during the course of action. Once detailed plan is determined, the MCS prepare and send warning operations orders, and related annexes. During the mission, the system provides automatic updates of friendly/enemy unit movement locations and battlefield geometry. As all information is maintained on the database, re-tasking of units is rapid and flexible. As an integrated part of the battle command systems, MCS receives information from external sources and updates those sources within predetermined operational plans. Such sources include intelligence, fire support, supply status and air operations requests.

Displays and Control Module (DCM). This is an irregularly shaped box of switches, valves, and digital displays that gets mounted on the chest. It controls the primary life support system and the secondary oxygen pack.

Displays and Control Module(DCM)... Along the top are switches for power, communications mode selection, caution and warning. There is also a switch that controls the water that is fed to the Liquid Cooling-and-Ventilation Garment. A digital display is used to monitor the various suit circuits. At the top left of this module is an emergency relief valve. If the primary life support system were to ever malfunction, the astronaut would still have access to the secondary oxygen pack. To activate this secondary oxygen pack, all the astronaut would have to do is open a purge valve by squeezing a set of pinchers. This valve releases air pressure on the chest plate-this is the same valve that is used at the end of EVA [Extravehicular Activity] to depressurize the suit. Also on the left, a step down from the purge valve, is the mechanical-suit pressure gauge. Along the right-hand side of the module, are two switches : the ventilation-fan switch and the push-to-talk switch. The ventilation-fan switch can activate and deactivate a fan which circulates air through the helmet and other parts of the suit. The push-to-talk switch is similar to one you would find on a CB [Citizen Band] radio. If the astronaut wants to talk, he has to push the button to be heard, and if he wants to receive voice messages, he has to release the button. On the front of the panel are other controls for volume, temperature, and suit pressure.

Le poussoir d'émission ressemble à ceux qu'on trouve sur les radios BP [bande publique]. Si l'astronaute veut parler, il doit pousser le bouton pour être entendu, et s'il veut entendre les messages, il doit relâcher le bouton. Le Canada, par son Bureau du système d'alerte du Nord, à Ottawa, est chargé de l'exploitation et de la maintenance de ce système. La société Frontec Logistics Corporation d'Edmonton (Alberta) a signé un contrat en vertu duquel elle doit exploiter et assurer la maintenance des radars de longue portée et de courte portée dans le nord du Canada et au Labrador et fournir des services à North Bay. Ce contrat vise la période de 1988 à 1995. Un contrat pour la période 1995-2000 est présentement en négociation avec Frontec Logistics Corporation et Panarctic Inuit Logistics Corp. Ce projet fait partie du Projet de modernisation du système de la défense aérienne de l'Amérique du Nord, un Grand projet de l'État financé conjointement par le Canada et les États-Unis. Travaux publics et Services gouvernementaux Canada, le ministère de la Défense nationale et Industrie Canada sont les ministères responsables de ce projet.
