AIR-FUEL RATIO [13 records]

Record 1 2025-07-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fueling Systems (Motor Vehicles)
CONT

Mass air flow(MAF) sensors are crucial for your vehicle's engine to perform well. They measure the air volume entering the engine, ensuring the air-fuel mixture is optimal for combustion. This balance is vital for efficient engine operation and power. MAF sensors are located between the air filter and the intake manifold. They help maintain the right air-fuel ratio in the engine's combustion chamber.

OBS

The most common type of mass air flow sensor is the hot-wire mass air flow sensor.

Key term(s)
  • air-flow sensor
  • airflow meter
  • air-flow meter

French

Domaine(s)
  • Alimentation (Véhicules automobiles)
CONT

DEF

A controller which positions the firing rate motor to automatically regulate the burner firing rate at a predetermined air-fuel ratio in accordance with load demand. It may position the air and fuel supplies for low fire or for high fire, or it may be a proportioning(modulating) type which gradually varies the air and fuel supplies within limits to meet the load demand.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Gas and Oil Heating
  • Burners and Steamfitting
DEF

A power burner in which gas is supplied at atmospheric pressure(zero gas) maintained by a zero governor. A fan, or blower, blows the air through a venturi, where venturi action pulls the gas into the airstream. The quantity of gas drawn into the airstream is a direct function of the air velocity, so the air-fuel ratio will remain constant regardless of the air volume. The firing rate is controlled by air adjustment alone.

DEF

An air-fuel mixture that has a relatively high proportion of fuel and a relatively low proportion of air. An air-fuel ratio of 13 : 1 indicates a rich mixture, compares with an air-fuel ratio of 16 : 1.

Domaine(s)
  • Alimentation (Véhicules automobiles)
  • Combustion et combustibles (Foyers)
CONT

A power burner in which the air and gas are mixed, under pressure, in a motor-driven blower. Simultaneous modulation of air and gas allows adjustment of the air-fuel ratio over a wide range, so an extremely short hot flame can be produced.

CONT

The combustive power of a fuel is the quantity of air (agent of combustion) strictly necessary for complete combustion. When expressed in Nm3 / kg the figure is around 6-5 Nm3 / kg for the organic matter in town sewage sludge and l0-5 Nm3 / kg for fuel oil (104 ft3 / lb and 167 ft3 / lb).

Subject field(s)

DEF

A power burner in which a fan, or blower, blows air at high velocity past turbulators. The gas, at regulated pressure, is released into the turbulent airstream-typically from a ring at the mouth of the burner(in which case it is also called a ring burner). The gas escapes through orifices around the periphery of the ring. Gas and air are adjusted simultaneously to maintain the proper air-fuel ratio as the firing rate changes. In high-pressure gun burners, the gas is ejected at pressures up to 15 psi from spuds located in the center of the turbulent airstream instead of at the outside.

DEF

the air-fuel ratio supplied to a furnace that provides more air than the optimum ratio.

CONT

The operating principal of the RMB [Rapid Mix Burner] staged firing configuration is to bum as much of the fuel as possible under the high excess air, ultralow NOx conditions. As a result of the fundamental principle mentioned above, this is done by operating the burners air rich (under conditions similar to normal firing, but with higher excess air and with a moderate amount of FGR), where the maximum theoretical NOx, formation is very predictable. Heat is extracted from these air-rich combustion products and cool furnace recirculation products are entrained. The staged fuel is then mixed with the air-rich burner products and combustion is completed. The excess air at the boiler outlet is thus similar to that with normal firing.
