... in Pneumatic Architecture structural stability is the product of the release of internal environmental energy (air or gas pressure) within a membrane or bag (generally made of PVC coated nylon). Pneumatic Architecture is therefore a sub-category of pressurized construction (water or other liquids can also be used to pressurize). Three main types of Pneumatic structures are identified: air-inflated, air-supported, and air-controlled. 5, record 1, English, - pneumatic%20structure
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Pneumatics can be sub-divided into the two main categories of air-stabilised structures and air-controlled structures... Air-stabilised construction can be further sub-divided into two distinct classes of structure : single wall air-supported and dual wall air-inflated structures... 4, record 1, English, - pneumatic%20structure

2, record 1, French, - structure%20gonflable

Once a fabric is rendered impermeable as, for example, by impregnation and/or coating with vinyl, neoprene, elastomers, polyurethane, and so forth, an entirely new set of construction uses of fabrics arises. The fabric, being nonporous, can now be lifted by air to form an air-supported structure capable of wide variations of size and shape. it can also be water filled, taking the shape of the fabric under hydrostatic pressure to form various enclosures or barriers such as inflatable flood gates in tidal zones. Lastly, if the coating has structural stiffness, it, in itself, becomes a structural element. Its use is now unlimited for enclosures, roofs, partitions, and many other related uses. 1, record 2, English, - impermeable%20fabric

[Impermeable construction fabric:] Impermeable Fabrics. Once a construction fabric is made nonpervious an entirely new spectrum of construction uses emerges. These uses can be categorized in the following areas: Air-supported and tension structures. Water-filled structures. Self-sustaining structures. Such application can occur above ground, below ground, or in water. 1, record 2, English, - impermeable%20fabric

There are two main types of pressurized structure but really unambiguous descriptions of them do not yet exist :(a) those that are held up by ribs or inflated "tyres" and therefore do not need an air lock to allow inward or outward access;(b) those that do need an air lock, have no inflated ribs and therefore must be held up by an internal air pressure slightly above atmospheric.... The ribbed structures are called "air inflated" and the non-ribbed ones "air supported".... The air-supported structures... are often used as a temporary shelter.... The edges must be weighted, or buried in soil which comes to the same thing, so as to counterbalance the upthrust on the roof skin of the small excess pressure. 3, record 3, English, - air%2Dsupported%20structure

2, record 3, French, - structure%20gonflable%20%C3%A0%20espace%20surpress%C3%A9
