Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
In the flotation process, clinging of a particle to air-water interphase or to a bubble. Fundamentally, adhesion is the force between two unlike substances... due to molecular attraction at an interface. 5, record 1, English, - adhesion
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A particle which had its surface fully covered by collector would find it difficult... to cling to an air-water interface completely packed with frother molecules. The incompleteness of adsorption of the contacting phases is an important factor in attachment. Mineralizing contact may result from collision between bubble and particle, from precipitation of gas from water or through a mixed process in which precipitation initiates contact. Tests... showed that attachment on collision with a coursing bubble increases with the density of the particle concerned, which by its greater mass is better able to break through the slipstream or energy barrier surrounding the bubble. Other research supports this by showing how a minute bubble, such as might result from precipitation, initiates bubble attachment or the build-up of a buoyant system.... The available gas also influences the kinetics of attachment. 6, record 1, English, - adhesion

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In flotation technology activation is the development on the surface of a designated mineral of selective reaction, usually attraction into the air-water interface. This renders the activated particle more eager to be drawn into a coursing bubble, rise and persist as part of a selectively mineralised froth. To induce such changes reagents called "activators" are used. Other chemicals, used to work to the opposite purpose are called "wetting agents" or "depressants. "Both types are surface-active agents or surfactants, capable of influencing conditions in the air-water-solid triphase. 7, record 2, English, - surface%20active%20agent

In a process called "molecular combing", DNA molecules attached at one end to a solid surface were extended and aligned by a receding air-water interface and left to dry on the surface. Molecular combing was observed to extend the length of the bacteriophage Lambda DNA molecule to 21. 5+/-0. 5 micrometers(unextended length, 16. 2 micrometers). 1, record 4, English, - molecular%20combing

With the combing process, it was possible to: (i) extend a chromosomal Escherichia coli DNA fragment (10^6 base pairs) and (ii) detect a minute quantity of DNA (10^3 molecules). These results open the way for a faster physical mapping of the genome and for the detection of small quantities of target DNA from a population of molecules. 1, record 4, English, - molecular%20combing

Another way to find the datum level of an object is with the aqua-level.... A transparent plastic hose..., the length to depend on the extent of the site and the clarity of the water, is the main tool. One diver fills it with air and the air-water interface of one end of the hose is held by a diver on the object selected to be the datum level, generally the highest object on the site. The hose..., forms an arc, and the opposite end of it is held by another diver holding a range pole vertically over the object to be measured. The position of the air-water interface on the range pole then indicates the elevation between the two points. 1, record 5, English, - aqua%2Dlevel

1, record 5, French, - niveau%20d%27air
