On an airplane fitted with a controllable pitch or a constant speed propeller, there are two instruments which indicate information about engine power output, the tachometer and the manifold pressure gauge. Settings on the manifold pressure gauge are controlled by the throttle. Colour range markings, similar to those on the tachometer, are incorporated on the dial of the manifold pressure gauge to indicate the normal operating range and operation limits. 2, record 1, English, - manifold%20pressure%20gauge

5, record 5, French, - assiette%20de%20l%27avion

The attitude indicator (also called the artificial horizon or the gyro horizon) provides the pilot with an artificial horizon as a means of reference when the natural horizon cannot be seen because of cloud, fog, rain or other obstructions to visibility... The natural horizon is represented by a horizon bar on the face of the instrument. 4, record 8, English, - natural%20horizon
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The attitude indicator relies on the principle of gyroscopic rigidity in space--the rapidly-spinning rotor disk resists any attempt to disturb its orientation. Thus, the gyro provides a stable horizontal reference against which the pitch and roll attitudes of the aircraft can be measured. The "artificial horizon bar" on the face of the attitude indicator is mechanically coupled to the gyro inside, so it remains parallel to the natural horizon. The instrument's little "symbolic airplane" is fixed to the instrument case, however, so it follows the roll and pitch movements of the real airplane. Consequently, the relationship of the horizon bar to the symbolic airplane is the same as the relationship between the natural horizon and the real airplane. 5, record 8, English, - natural%20horizon
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 3 CONT
The attitude indicator and heading indicator are based on a gyro’s rigidity in space. Because a gyro resists being tipped over, it can provide a stable reference to the real horizon or to a specific direction. 2, record 8, English, - natural%20horizon

The gyro instruments require a source of power to drive their gyros. This power is supplied either by the electrical system of the airplane or by a vacuum system that functions by means of an engine-driven pump or venturi... Electrically driven gyros were first developed for use in airplanes that flew at very high altitudes where atmospheric pressure was too low to operate a vacuum system. 2, record 11, French, - pression%20d%27air%20diff%C3%A9rentielle

Air pressure differential is the principle on which the vacuum driven gyro instruments operate. A vacuum pump run by the airplane engine creates a partial vacuum in the system. A filtered air inlet upstream of the gyros allows air to rush into the system causing the gyro wheels to spin. 1, record 12, English, - vacuum%20driven%20gyro%20instrument

Alternating current from engine driven alternators or generators provides the power to the gyros. 1, record 13, English, - electrically%20driven%20gyro

1, record 13, French, - gyroscope%20entra%C3%AEn%C3%A9%20%C3%A9lectriquement

Gyro instruments have made the art of piloting an airplane more precise. They are very useful in VFR flight. In instrument flight, they are invaluable. In most general aviation airplanes, there are three gyro instruments : the heading indicator, the attitude indicator, and the turn and slip indicator. 4, record 14, English, - gyroscopic%20flight%20instrument
