A gyroscope instrument for indicating direction, containing a free gyroscope which holds its position in azimuth and thus indicates angular deviation from a pre-set heading. 12, record 1, English, - directional%20gyroscope
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The heading indicator(HI) uses the principle of rigidity in space for it's operation. The gyro is mounted such that it registers changes around the vertical axis only; i. e. direction changes. The compass card attached to the gyro appears to the pilot as though it is turning. In reality, it and the attached gyro are remaining rigid in space, while the aircraft and case turn about the gyro. The HI is not automatically synchronized with the magnetic compass. It must be set to the compass heading while level on the airport surface prior to take-off. 13, record 1, English, - directional%20gyroscope

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT

In order to maintain the required obstacle free airspace in the vicinity of a certified airport, regulations known as airport zoning regulations(AZR) may be enacted by Transport Canada. These AZR are enacted not only to protect the present operations of an airport, but also to help ensure that potential and future development surrounding the airport remains compatible with the safe operation of aircraft and of the airport itself. Lands within the airport boundary are under the control of the airport operator and do not require AZR. Since Transport Canada certification requirements normally extend beyond the airport boundary, AZR are enacted on the surrounding off-airport lands. For AZR to be enacted an airport certificate must be in force at an airport or the land in question must be designated as an airport site.... AZR restrict the heights of buildings, structures and objects(including natural growth) on regulated lands, and protect aircraft from potential hazards, such as bird strikes and electronic signal interference. 1, record 8, English, - airport%20zoning%20regulations

1, record 8, French, - r%C3%A8glement%20de%20zonage%20a%C3%A9roportuaire

In addition to the changes in structure and managerial practices introduced in October 1985, the Department of Transport is currently instituting further improvements within the Transport Canada organization to increase the efficiency of airport operations. It is with these changes in mind that this second option is called "Modified Transport Canada". ... an airport master plan "presents the planner's conception of the ultimate development of a specific airport. It... presents the research and logic from which the plan was evolved and artfully displays the plan in a graphic and written report. Master plans are applied to the modernization and expansion of existing airports and to the construction of new airports.... "... an airport master plan is only a guide... for 1) the development of physical facilities of an airport-aviation and non-aviation use, 2) development of land uses for areas surrounding an airport, 3) determining the environmental effects of airport construction and operation, and 4) establishing access requirements of the airport. 1, record 12, English, - airport%20master%20plan
