In a tenancy in common each tenant owns an undivided interest in the entire estate. It is sometimes spoken of as a "sole and several tenancy". The unity of possession in a tenancy in common is a several unity, not a joint unity as in joint tenancy. A several unity permits alienation of a tenant in common's interest in the estate without destroying the common tenancy relationship between the co-owners....(Cartwright, 1972, p. 866). 1, record 16, English, - sole%20and%20several%20tenancy

The Statute "Quia Emptores" forbade alienation by subinfeudation and removed all restraints on alienation by substitution of an estate in fee simple that had previously existed. The statute is in force in all the common law jurisdictions of Canada.... the statute has been described as a pillar of real property law, for it still operates, whenever a person sells his land, to put the purchaser in the vendor's place.(Anger & Honsberger, 2nd ed., 1985, p. 114) 1, record 30, English, - alienation%20by%20substitution

Prior to("Quia Emptores") the number of subtenures had greatly increased by the process of subinfeudation. By this process a tenant, instead of alienating his land outright for a capital sum, created a new tenurial relationship between himself and another whereby the other person became his tenant of the land in return for a perpetual grant or service. The new tenant might create a further subtenure and in theory the process could go on "ad infinitum". "Quia Emptores" accomplished two important objectives. In the first place it abolished alienation by subinfeudation and secondly, it endorsed the principle of alienation by substitution.(Anger & Honsberger, 2nd ed., 1985, p. 23) 1, record 37, English, - alienation%20by%20subinfeudation

The Western Canada Concept was a Western Canadian political party founded in 1980 to promote the separation of the provinces of Manitoba, Saskathewan, Alberta and British Columbia and the Yukon and Northwest Territories from Canada in order to create a new nation. The party's concerns centred on perception that Western Canada could not receive fair treatment while the interests of Quebec and Ontario dominated Canadian politics. The party gained popularity in Alberta when western alienation was at its height following the federal Liberal government announcement of the National Energy Program in October 1980. This policy aimed to ensure low energy costs for Canadian industry and consumers, a policy that would not benefit Alberta, Canada's major producer of oil and gas. 1, record 46, English, - Western%20Canada%20Concept

Psychologist Mihaly Czikszentmihalyi(1990) has studied optimal or "autotelic" experiences-what he refers to as "flow experiences. "The word "autotelic' derives from two Greek words, ’auto’ meaning self, and ’telos’ meaning goal. It refers to a self-contained activity, one that is done not with the expectation of some future benefit, but simply because the doing itself is the reward, i. e., compelling mental focus. Czikszentmihalyi explains, "The autotelic experience, or flow, lifts the course of life to a different level. Alienation gives way to involvement, enjoyment replaces boredom, helplessness turns into a feeling of control, and psychic energy works to reinforce the sense of self, instead of being lost in the service of external goals". 1, record 54, English, - autotelic
