If all the lines are scanned in sequence, the process is called sequential scanning.... A variation of this kind of scanning, called interlaced scanning, is used to conserve bandwidth in the transmission system without introducing intolerable flicker.... With interlaced scanning, alternate(odd-numbered) lines are scanned first, and the remaining(even-numbered) lines are scanned next.
