2, record 1, Spanish, - anaplasmosis

Trawling questionnaire : This term commonly refers to interview forms designed to capture a wide range of exposures. They are sometimes called “hypothesis-generating” or... shotgun questionnaires. These forms may be designed with embedded questions focused on disease-specific hypotheses, which may serve to consolidate the hypothesis generation and testing processes into a single step. For instance, the trawling questionnaire for an outbreak of E. coli O157 : H7 may contain questions about standard transmission mechanisms for this agent such as hamburger consumption, day-care attendance, recreational pool use, animal exposures... 1, record 5, English, - trawling%20questionnaire

The nurses asked those who had become ill a battery of questions from a 20-page survey known as a "shotgun" questionnaire that explores potential sources of disease, from animal contact to sources of drinking water to attendance at various locations that could be contaminated. The nurses went through what each person had eaten during the week before the illness struck to attempt to identify what caused the outbreak... The goal was to find a common element, whether it was a food item or some kind of contact or common location. "It's like shooting in a barrel hoping to hit something, "... But they did hit something.... 84% of those who were sickened had eaten a tomato... 4, record 5, English, - trawling%20questionnaire

During a century of research, plant varieties and animal strains have been improved; good soil conservation practices have been implemented; losses by insect pests, plant diseases, animal disease, drought and frost have been reduced or overcome; economical methods of storage and food preservation have been discovered; and better means of using food crops and animal products have been developed. These types of research serve to make Canadian farmers more secure in their undertakings and to provide consumers with better products. 2, record 13, English, - agricultural%20research

2, record 13, French, - recherche%20agricole

Although the Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA) is the lead agency for the National Aquatic Animal Health Program(NAAHP), the Department of Fisheries and Oceans(DFO) is responsible for providing diagnostic and research support. This virtual Centre of Expertise(COE) will provide consistent and scientifically robust delivery of aquatic animal health diagnostics and research in support of NAAHP, research diseases of highest regulatory significance through the nationally coordinated Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory System that includes the Gulf Fisheries Centre, Moncton, NB; the Pacific Biological Station, Nanaimo, BC; and the Freshwater Institute, Winnipeg, MB. The Centre has three primary priorities : 1) diagnostic methods, 2) technology development, and 3) knowledge generation. This COE will develop and validate quality assured diagnostic methods for priority diseases, develop efficient and effective technology platforms in support of analytical procedures and diagnostic tests, and develop a sound scientific knowledge base in support of regulatory programs and risk-based management. Research priorities established in conjunction with CFIA include : viral strain differentiation and correlation to pathogenic significance, development and validations of diagnostic tools, disease transmission via product, carrier species, non-lethal sampling, processing effluent, decontamination procedures, and emerging disease investigation. As aquatic animal health issues expand, the Centre will provide the research and diagnostics required to protect Canada's seafood trade. 1, record 44, English, - Centre%20of%20Expertise%20for%20Aquatic%20Animal%20Health%20and%20Research%20Diagnostics

1, record 44, French, - Centre%20d%27expertise%20sur%20la%20sant%C3%A9%20des%20animaux%20aquatiques%2C%20recherche%20et%20diagnostic

Record number: 65, Textual support number: 1 OBS
1, record 65, French, - porteur

Usually human cases are related to contaminated food, especially poultry, eggs, milk and their products. Persons who work with animals may become infected by the agent shed in animal feces. Human Salmonellosis may occur 6-72 hours after ingestion of the agent. Fever, muscle aches, headache and malaise are followed by abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The diarrhea may resolve in 2-4 days but some people may continue to shed the bacteria with no signs of disease. Some types of Salmonella can cause septicemia which can result in a disease of longer duration and greater severity. 2, record 70, English, - human%20salmonellosis

Losses caused by fungi include general deterioration of the grain, loss in germination and dry matter, heating, and the development of mustiness. Thermophilic or heat tolerant fungi can push grains mass temperatures beyond the range of insect survival. Medical evidence shows that mouldy grain or hay is the cause of farmers lung disease. Under favourable temperature and moisture conditions, some fungi produce mycotoxins. These toxins cause different animal diseases including abortions, reduced fertility and general ill-health. They also make grain unfit for human consumption. The production of mycotoxins is more common in warmer humid climates than in areas with a dry climate. 1, record 72, English, - thermophilic%20fungi

1, record 72, French, - myc%C3%A8te%20thermophile

Maedi is the Icelandic word for dyspnoea, and the disease is a type of pneumonia with a very long incubation period-one to three years or even more. Listlessness and loss of condition-often after stress of some kind-are the first symptoms. An early sign is dyspnoea; after physical exertion the breathing becomes very rapid and shallow. Later, breathing becomes difficult even when the animal is at rest, and death often follows. 3, record 76, English, - maedi
