Processed plant proteins. Plants provide the major portion of protein requirements by animals. However, due to their deficiency in one or more amino acids, plant proteins are usually fortified with synthetic amino acids or another protein source... Various processed soybean products have been used in animal and poultry feeding. These [products] include soybean protein concentrates(SPC), soybean protein isolates(SPI), and products in which the soybean was pretreated with enzymes and/or microorganisms. Processed soy products are distinctly different to SBM [soybean meal] [and] they... contain a significantly lower amount of oligosaccharides and antigenic substances.... Pout être plus efficace et mieux assimilé, l'apport alimentaire azoté peut être adapté dans le temps pour prendre en compte ces caractéristiques physiologiques. As part of its mission to protect the health of American agriculture, the United States Department of Agriculture's(USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service(APHIS) works to prevent foreign animal diseases from entering the U. S. and harming [the] nation's livestock and poultry. One way that APHIS does this is to enforce the Swine Health Protection Act, which provides rules for feeding human food waste to pigs. Phagocytosis [is a] process by which certain living cells called phagocytes ingest or engulf other cells or particles. The phagocyte may be a free-living one-celled organism, such as an amoeba, or one of the body cells, such as a white blood cell. In some forms of animal life, such as amoebas and sponges, phagocytosis is a means of feeding. In higher animals, phagocytosis is chiefly a defensive reaction against infection and invasion of the body by foreign substances(antigens). 2, record 7, English, - phagocytosis

Animal Feeding Operations(AFOs) are agricultural operations where animals are kept and raised in confined situations. AFOs congregate animals, feed, manure and urine, dead animals, and production operations on a small land area. Feed is brought to the animals rather than the animals grazing or otherwise seeking feed in pastures, fields, or on rangeland.... Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations(CAFOs) are AFOs that meet certain EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] criteria. On December 5, 2000, the EU [European Union] Farm Council met to discuss the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy(BSE) situation in the EU and develop regulations relating to feeding rendered products to livestock.... It is believed that BSE is transmitted through the feeding of rendered products from infected animals. As a result, the EU farm council has proposed a 6 month ban on feeding rendered products to livestock beginning in January 2001. This proposal bans the use of all animal protein meals from feeds including feather meal and blood meal. Fish meal is also banned for use in cattle feed but is allowed in feed destined for fish, poultry, and hogs. 2, record 24, English, - rendered%20product
