DEF

... the process of obtaining information on the animal patient about its illness, feeding practice etc. through careful questioning of the owner.

CONT

[In dermatology,] history taking is divided into those enquiries that relate specifically to the skin’s condition and those about the general history and management of the animal. DEF

From Alberta or Montana, North America. Various items of the Blackfoot costume. The war shirt is decorated with painted designs including Thunderbirds, bison heads, horses, and tadpoles, probably representing a combination of religious images relating to specific exploits of the owner... The tadpoles, also depicted down the leggings, may represent war wounds. Large amounts of ermine or weasel fur have been used on the leggings, this animal being considered the most dangerous, for its size, by the Blackfoot.

Name of a health insurance plan for house pets

CONT

Feeling dogged by the high cost of veterinary treatment for your pet? "Montreal insurance broker Barry Nichol thinks he has the answer : Medipet/Ani-Maux, insurance for housepets.... "Pet insurance works like any health insurance plan : a pet owner pays regular premiums, then when the animal gets sick or injured and an expensive veterinary treatment is needed, the lion's share of the costs are covered. "For instance, the Medipet/Ani-Maux policy(the French version of the name is a contraction of animal and maux, which means pain) pays 70 per cent of the costs of treatment, after the deductible, which varies according to the program".

OBS

A bundle might be a few feathers wrapped in skin or a multitude of objects such as animal skins, roots, or stone pipes inside a rawhide bag... Fixed rules of inheritance governed the sale of a particular bundle. Formal transfer was a solemn ceremony and the new owner had to learn the significance of all objects in the bundle, details of visions to which they owed their origins, and songs that established their validity. Feasts were given for bundles by both owners and nonowners.

Subject field(s)
  • Tort Law (common law)
  • Fire, Accidents, Miscellaneous Risks (Insur.)
OBS

In insurance it is most commonly met in connection with domestic animals. If the animal is normally very tame and docile, the owner has the right to assume that it will not suddenly become dangerous. If however, the owner has knowledge of will tendencies in the animal, he is obliged to protect others from injury and is liable in negligence for his failure to do so. From this comes the frequent reference that "a dog is entitled to one bite".
