2, record 2, French, - prot%C3%A9ine%20brute%20de%20la%20fibre%20au%20d%C3%A9tergent%20acide

Simplistically, [animal] feeds consist of two major fractions—water and dry matter. While water is physiologically critical, the nutrients(energy, protein, minerals, and vitamins) are found in the dry matter fraction, so it is important to know what percentage of the feed is associated with dry matter. Although the quantity of dry matter in a feed will not change, the amount of water present may change, and this will determine the dry matter percentage. 4, record 4, English, - dry%20matter%20percentage

The human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) genome encodes at least seven groups of viral proteins. These groups of proteins include the three classes of polypeptides present in the majority of animal retroviruses : 1. structural, nonenvelope polypeptides encoded by the gag gene; 2. enzymes required for virion replication(reverse transcriptase/r) and for cleavage of viral precursor proteins(protease/pr), both encoded by the pol gene; 3. envelope polypeptides encoded by env gene. In addition, HIV's possess genes that encode four sets of polypeptides not found in the majority of typical retroviruses. These include a transactivating regulator of RNA translation(tat), a cis-acting downregulator of RNA transcription(nef), a regulator that modulates the expression of structural proteins(rev), a protein that modulates viral infectivity(vif), and two proteins(vpr, vpu) whose functions are still unclear. By applying quantitative assay methods to determine the amount of catalytic activity present in different protein fractions obtained from cells or tissues..., it is possible to purify enzymes and ultimately obtain them in homogeneous form... It should be kept in mind that a crude extract of bacterial cells or of a plant or animal tissue may contain several hundred different proteins, most of them enzymes, whose solubility and acid-base properties do not differ widely. Therefore purification of a single enzyme from such an extract requires an empirical choice of a sequence of separation procedures to exploit differences in properties between the enzyme to be isolated and all the other proteins present. 3, record 25, English, - crude%20extract

Hydrolyzed feather meal. Description. The process involves preparation of poultry feed as animal... protein supplement from poultry feathers, which form the solid wastes in the poultry dressing units and are thrown out creating disposal problems. Although the feathers contain about 80% protein, they are not easily digestable in raw stage due to the presence of disulfide linkage. The process involves rehydration of the feathers followed by thermal hydrolysis and subsequent drying as well as powdering. The uniqueness of the process lies in hydrolysing this rich proteinous source, which is otherwise wasted adding to pollution problem to prepare a protein supplement for poultry feed, thereby creating wealth out of waste. 1, record 31, English, - hydrolyzed%20feather%20meal

On December 5, 2000, the EU [European Union] Farm Council met to discuss the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy(BSE) situation in the EU and develop regulations relating to feeding rendered products to livestock.... It is believed that BSE is transmitted through the feeding of rendered products from infected animals. As a result, the EU farm council has proposed a 6 month ban on feeding rendered products to livestock beginning in January 2001. This proposal bans the use of all animal protein meals from feeds including feather meal and blood meal. Antibody purification monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies can be purified and concentrated to meet your specific assay requirements. Protein A and protein G purification matrices are routinely used to selectively adsorb polyclonal IgG from most animal sera. Purified monoclonal IgG can be obtained from ascites or cell culture media using these methods as well.(Excerpt from INTERNET). 2, record 38, English, - immunohistochemistry

A secondary novel technology to which the Company has exclusive rights is that of antibody-targeted liposomes. This technology involves the incorporation of an antimyosin antibody into liposome membranes that serves to target the immunoliposome to cytoskeletal protein exposed by cellular membrane lesions. Upon anchoring the liposome to the cell via the antibody the liposome presumably fuses with the cell membrane and repairs the lesion. In vitro and animal model studies have shown that this methodology has been able to preserve cell and tissue viability under anoxic/ischemic conditions. This technology may be able to limit the extent of heart muscle damage during heart attacks and myocarditis. 1, record 40, English, - immunoliposome

There is some interest in adenoviruses as gene cloning vectors for expressing large amounts of recombinant proteins in animal cells. Like many viruses, adenoviruses have the ability to "turn on" their genes at a very high level. Adenoviral vectors seek to use this property by replacing a viral gene with another one, one that codes for a protein we want. 1, record 43, English, - adenoviral%20vector

Foods described using the term ’organic' or its derivatives are a product of ’organic farming’... ’Organic livestock’ is raised under conditions of minimal stress, including reasonable freedom of movement, lack of crowding and access to sunshine, fresh air and water. All grains, forages and protein supplements fed to the animals must be ’organically’ grown. Animal health must be maintained without the use of antibiotics, synthetic growth promoters, hormones or similar products. Slaughtering and processing must be done under humane and sanitary conditions. [Harrosmith, 1989, no 86, p. 39]. 2, record 44, English, - organic%20meat

Recently, several mesoderm-inducing factors(MIFs) have been discovered. These cause isolated Xenopus animal caps to form mesodermal cell types such as muscle, instead of their normal fate of epidermis. The MIFs fall into two classes. One comprises members of the fibroblast growth factor(FGF) family, and the other members of the transforming growth factor type beta(TGF-beta) family. Of the latter group, the most potent is XTC-MIF, a protein produced by Xenopus XTC cells. Here we show that XTC-MIF is the homologue of mammalian activin A. 3, record 45, English, - mesoderm%20inducing%20factor
