As stated above, recreational dive planners are for "no-decompression" diving. That's unfortunately a rather ambiguous term because, of course, we do decompress as we ascend to the surface again. What it really means is that the data in the tables shows the length of time you can stay at a certain depth and still be able to ascend without making mandatory scheduled "decompression stops. The Klemheist knot(or Machard knot) is a type of friction hitch used as a part of a system to ascend or descend a climbing rope.... A Prusik loop is wrapped round the climbing rope two or three times. The loop is then threaded through itself and carefully tightened to wrap the climbing rope neatly. In use, strain must only be taken on the hanging loop. Never grip and pull on the knot itself-a rapid descent can occur! If the knot slips when load is placed on the hanging loop, wrap the loop around the climbing rope another time or two as necessary until there is no slippage. 6, record 8, English, - Klemheist%20knot
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The knot is tied with a thin cord, usually 5 mm or 6 mm in diameter, onto the rope. The climber then attaches himself to the knot by clipping the cord onto his harness. Progress up a fixed rope is made by sliding the knot up the rope and then weighting or loading it with the climber’s weight. When loaded, the Klemheist knot cinches onto the climbing rope, allowing the climber to progress upward. When the knot is unloaded, it loosens, allowing the climber to slide it up the rope. 7, record 8, English, - Klemheist%20knot

Degrees of consanguinity. The degrees of blood relationship with the deceased are as follows : The deceased's children are in the first degree and his parents are in the first degree in the ascending scale; his brothers and sisters are in the second degree and his grandparents are in the second degree in the ascending scale; nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts are in the third degree, and so on. In direct lineal descent, however, a rule of law overrides the degree of relationship, for issue of deceased issue to the remotest degree "represent" their deceased parent and take his share... Impartiality is the cornerstone of the traditional doctrine of neutrality. It is the tightrope which the neutral chooses to walk; a fall to one side or the other is so devastating that the crippled neutral will not be able again to ascend the ladder to the lofty heights of detachment that neutrality requires. The Hague Conventions called for impartiality to be exercised by a neutral in regulating the use of its territory in any form. A neutral power had to apply total impartiality to the belligerents in regard to any conditions, restrictions, or prohibitions made by it in regard to the admission into its ports, territorial waters, and territory. 1, record 20, English, - impartiality

When the angle of ice steepens, and more security than the cross-body technique (piolet ramasse) provides is desirable, the axe is planted in the anchor position (piolet ancre) ...: with the outside hand just above the spike, the axe is swung so that the pick is anchored in the ice in front and above the climber’s head with the shaft parallel to the slope. The inside hand reaches up and grasps the axe head in the self-arrest position. By pulling down on the anchored axe, the climber steps up to a new in-balance position. A gentle and constant outward pull must be kept on the shaft to set the teeth and keep the axe locked into the ice. Following Lethbridge and Rowe’s exploits there was little to no mention of the armoured diving suit until 1838, an almost 80 year lull from Lethbridge’s death in 1759. ... W.H. Taylor designed the first known armoured diving suit with articulating joints in 1838. The suit was to be surface-supplied and had accordion-like joints of spring steel, reinforced and water sealed with leather. From his drawing, it seems that either Taylor had no intentions of his suit being a true atmospheric diving suit, or else had no understanding of the depth-pressure relationship. The suit appeared to exhaust directly into the surrounding water from a short hose located at the divers waist. Therefore, the interior pressure would have had to be greater than the water pressure at depth. Also, the soft cloth joints of the suit would have most likely collapsed when exposed to any considerable pressure. 4, record 27, English, - armoured%20diving%20suit

3, record 31, French, - HyperSoar

Deep diving systems. With the increase in offshore oil and gas drilling, and with offshore mining being contemplated, a more efficient system of diving deep has been developed. This system, called either deep dive system(DDS) or advanced dive system(ADS), incorporates a pressurized personnel transfer capsule(PTC), like an elevator, in which the divers ascend and descend rapidly to working depths. The divers, employing mixed-gas hookah breathing apparatus and wearing lightweight suits, emerge from the PTC to work. 3, record 34, English, - diving%20system

There are many different approaches to region formation including the use of histograms, clusters, relaxation or cluster labels, and the further application of R-trees.... One simple data-driven region formation scheme based on R-trees illustrates the general process. This scheme, called the splinter rule, eliminates local low contrast texture and forms larger regions in the following manner. All maximal sets of consecutive peaks are located in the intensity profile whose valleys strictly ascend and then strictly descend in height from left to right. The peaks in each such "peak group" are merged into a new peak whose height and location are that of the highest peak in that "peak group". 1, record 35, English, - splinter%20rule

A specific form of the Oculogravic Illusion produced by a change in the magnitude of the linear acceleration vector but not its direction. With a reduction in magnitude of a vertical z-axis linear acceleration an object, fixed with reference to the observer, appears to descend, and to ascend when the linear acceleration in the same axis is increased. 1, record 37, English, - elevator%20illusion

This is a paroxysmal extension of the Vulcanian and Strombolian types, the new and specific feature being the extremely violent expulsion of magma which has become highly charged with gas during a long interval of superficial quiescence or mild activity. Because of the concentration of streams of explosive gas through the conduit, while coherent lava flows are escaping from fissures and vents on the flanks..., the conduit may be emptied of lava down to a considerable depth.... the underlying magma bursts into an explosive spray and expels itself through the crater as vast clouds of "cauliflower" form, which may be brightly luminous when seen at night. These ascend to great heights, and from them showers of ashes are widely distributed. 1, record 38, English, - Vesuvian%20type
