ATTITUDE MEASUREMENT SUBSYSTEM [6 records]

Record 1 2003-06-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Spacecraft
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
CONT

The Attitude Measurement Electronics uses inputs from the spacecraft Sun Sensors, Attitude and Orbit Control Electronics(AOCE) and ground commands to provide the spacecraft subsystems with refined Sun pulse information, and to control the position of the fuel regulation valves and heaters in the Reaction Control Subsystem. It also takes power from the AOCS power converters and provides power switching for other units within the AOCS.

CONT

In its simplest form, an inertial navigation system(INS) consists of an inertial measurement unit(IMU), the navigation computer, and a computer interface. Therefore, the inertial navigation system aboard an aircraft provides, through self-contained equipment, aircraft acceleration, velocity, position, attitude, and heading to the onboard navigation computer and other aircraft subsystems... For certain operations and/or missions... dual or triple redundant inertial navigation systems are required... In a dual INS configuration... as long as either inertial navigation system is providing valid data, its output can be used as the primary reference source for the navigation subsystem.

Key term(s)
  • dual redundant INS

The VG400CA is a high performance, solid-state vertical gyro intended for airborne applications such as UAV control, avionics, and platform stabilization. This high reliability, strap-down inertial subsystem provides attitude measurement with static and dynamic accuracy comparable to traditional spinning mass vertical gyros.

OBS

solid state technology: A general term for sensors that do not have moving parts.

OBS

solid state: Pertaining to a circuit, device, or system that depends on some combination of electrical, magnetic, and optical phenomena within a solid that is usually a crystalline semiconductor material.

OBS
