GOES-9, a three axis stabilized spacecraft, remains stationary in space which allows the [imager and sounder] instruments to be continuously pointed at the earth. The scanning system moves back and forth(i. e., east to west and then west to east) as it moves north to south. While the spacecraft is stationary, it is not absolutely still. Earth location and registration accuracy are [affected] by orbital motions, instrument motion, and thermal distortion. A complicated set of navigation(earth location) and registration(image-to-image location of a landmark) correction schemes are necessary to compensate for these effects.... The registration schemes briefly are : 1) image motion compensation(IMC) and 2) mirror motion compensation(MMC). The IMC removes spacecraft orbit and attitude motion from each image. The MMC automatically corrects for the predictable effects of the instrument mirror motions. 3, record 2, English, - mirror%20motion%20compensation

The Zarya control module, also known by the technical term Functional Cargo Block and the Russian acronym FGB, was the first component launched for the International Space Station and provides the station's initial propulsion and power.... The U. S.-funded and Russian-built Zarya, which means Sunrise when translated to English, is a U. S. component of the station although it was built and launched by Russia.... The Zarya module is 41. 2 feet long and 13. 5 feet wide at its widest point. It has an operational lifetime of at least 15 years. Its solar arrays and six nickel-cadmium batteries can provide an average of 3 kilowatts of electrical power. Using the Russian Kurs system, the Zarya will perform an automated and remotely piloted rendezvous and docking with the Service Module in orbit. Its docking power will accommodate Russian Soyuz piloted spacecraft and unpiloted Progress resupply spacecraft. Each of the two solar arrays is 35 feet long and 11 feet wide. The module's 16 fuel tanks combined can hold more than 6 tons of propellant. The attitude control system for the module includes 24 large steering jets and 12 small steering jets. Two large engines are available for reboosting the spacecraft and making major orbital changes. 6, record 7, English, - Zarya%20control%20module

1, record 12, French, - cardan%20interne

... gyros and accelerometers have an offset, known as bias. The gyro bias for instance, shows itself after integration as an angular drift, increasing rise linearly over time(ramp)... To compensate for sensor drift, a process called augmentation is used, whereby gyro and acceleration errors are compensated by utilising other system states. For instance the angular drift error of a gyro after integration can be compensated, if true angular measurements are taken. Comparing the two shows then the gyro drift. Assuming that inertial systems are generally operated around an equilibrium position and thus linear acceleration integrates to zero over time, then attitude can be processed via gravitational acceleration, thus giving true angular measurements to compensate gyro drift. 1, record 18, English, - angular%20drift

Inertial Stellar Compass Concept. ISC technology has artificial intelligence capabilities which will keep a spacecraft on course by providing attitude information to keep it stable and pointing accurately. It will also help the spacecraft recover from unexpected events, a temporary malfunction or power loss. To do that, the compass uses information from the camera-gyro assembly(CGA), which consists of two miniaturized devices : a star camera(or star tracker) to tell the spacecraft where it is pointing; gyroscopes to continuously monitor the spacecraft's motion. The gyroscopes also inform the control system how to keep the spacecraft stable and pointed in the right direction in case the camera is "blinded" by the Sun. The information gathered is compared with a large stellar catalog stored in the data processor assembly(DPA). Using a special algorithm the DPA determines the attitude accurately. This way the spacecraft's attitude is maintained correctly. 2, record 34, English, - inertial%20stellar%20compass

Les commandes de vol électriques suppriment toute timonerie entre le pilote et les gouvernes, cela permet de piloter des avions naturellement instables, comme le Mirage 2000 et le Rafale, leur conférant ainsi une grande maniabilité. 3, record 54, French, - circuit%20de%20commandes%20de%20vol

A flight director is a highly sophisticated system that electronically collects the information provided by a number of instruments, feeds this information into a computer and presents it in two visual displays. The two instruments that provide this visual display are a horizontal situation indicator(HSI) and an attitude director indicator(ADI). Usually the flight director installation is combined with an autopilot system. The entire package is then known as a flight control system. 7, record 55, English, - horizontal%20situation%20indicator

The description of the Station's flight attitude(orientation relative to the plane of its orbit) is referenced to local-vertical/local-horizontal(LVLH) axes that are fixed with respect to the Station's near-circular orbit(i. e., not to the physical Station). The LVLH origin is at the Station's center-of-mass; the z-axis points radially toward the Earth's center(or toward the nadir direction), the x-axis points along the orbital velocity vector(the ram direction, with wake being opposite), and the y-axis completes the right-handed triad. The flight attitude of the Station is then described using a second, Station-fixed, coordinate system whose orientation relative to LVLH is specified using the Eulerian angles of yaw, pitch and roll. Several Station-fixed coordination systems are defined. The most widely used is the Space Station Reference Coordinate System,... in thich the positive x-axis points along the axis of the U. S. lab away from the Zarya and Service Modules; the positive y-axis points starboard along the main truss, and positive z completes a right-handed coordinate system. 2, record 75, English, - Station%27s%20flight%20attitude

A gyroscope will not only resist being moved out of its vertical position, it will also generate force as it attempts to travel in large, circular patterns. These patterns are most easily seen with a spinning top. As the top begins losing its energy, it never simply spirals straight down in the same direction that it was originally spinning. As it destabilizes, it will always begin slowly rotating or precessing in a slow, even circle that is in the opposite direction to its normal spinning motion. These circular patterns are known as "precessional" motions, and they are another aspect of a gyroscope’s movement that will occur either in air or in a vacuum and can be used to overcome gravity. 3, record 80, English, - gyroscopic%20motion

The final phase of rendezvous operations begins about three hours prior to Atlantis’ docking with the ISS [International Space Station]. Atlantis will approach the ISS from below, in what is referred to as a plus-R bar approach, to minimize the effects of jet thruster firings on the station and its solar arrays. About 40 minutes before the terminal initiation burn(Ti burn) when Atlantis moves within 135, 000 feet of the station, the shuttle's rendezvous radar system is activated to provide supplemental navigation information. Prior to initiating the Ti burn, the crew will power on the ODS [Orbital Docking System] and activate Atlantis's docking lights. A series of course correction burns will bring Atlantis to a point almost directly below and behind the station, at which point Commander Ken Cockrell initiates the manual portion of his approach to the ISS. Atlantis will intercept the R-bar about 700 feet below the station. Cockrell will slowly move Atlantis to a point about 600 feet below the station before performing a 180 degree yaw maneuver to position Atlantis in a "tail forward" attitude for the final approach and docking. 3, record 85, English, - rendezvous

The satellite's integral propulsion system uses monomethyl hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide bipropellant carried in four spherical titanium tanks. A single 490-newton(110-pound force) thruster is used for perigee augmentation and apogee burns, and thirteen 22-newton(5-pound force) thrusters are used for attitude control and stationkeeping maneuvers. Highly accurate antenna pointing control is provided by independent beacon tracking on each of the Ku-band reflector systems. The attitude control system uses an innovative combination of double-gimballed momentum wheels and magnetic field torquing, which minimizes the need for thruster use during normal on-station operations. 3, record 89, English, - double%2Dgimballed%20momentum%20wheel

The system is based on a special landing gear called a jump strut, which works by giving the aircraft the proper attitude for take-off,.... First, the system extends the nose gear, raising the nose. A few milliseconds later, the main gear is activated(’jumps’) in its turn, increasing the distance between wheels and fuselage, while rotation continues. After a vertical leap of some 6ft, the aircraft slows and descends slightly because of the increased drag at the higher angle of attack. Finally, and virtually without a pause, the aircraft resumes its climb.... The jump strut is extended under pilot control by a nitrogen-charged actuator. Once fired, it is immediately vented to atmosphere to enable the gear to resume its normal shock-attenuating function should the take-off run have to be aborted. 1, record 90, English, - jump%20strut
