The principal advantage of pulsed Doppler is range resolution, or the ability to sample blood flow in a small, specific area whose location and depth can be varied. A disadvantage of pulsed Doppler, however, is that there are limits to the maximum frequency shifts that can be unambiguously displayed at any given depth. To avoid range ambiguity, the ultrasound pulse must travel down to the selected depth and back before the next pulse can enter the heart. Therefore, the PRF [pulse repetition frequency] or sampling rate is limited at each depth. 4, record 9, English, - pulsed%20Doppler%20ultrasonography

The entry from the intermediate pressure hose into the second stage is sealed with a spring-loaded valve. The spring is just strong enough to hold back the intermediate pressure. The valve is also connected to a lever that touches the membrane of the second stage. When a diver inhales, the membrane is pulled inward. This action pushes the lever down. The movement of the lever opens the valve and air can flow into the second stage. When the diver stops inhaling, the membrane moves back to its original position and the second stage valve can close again. 2, record 12, English, - second%20stage

Boiler Return Trap or Alternating Receiver. This type of trap is used to return condensate to a low pressure boiler. The boiler return trap does not hold steam as do other types, but is an adaptation of the lifting trap. It is used in conjunction with a boiler to prevent flooding return mains when excess pressure prevents condensate from returning to the boiler by gravity. The boiler trap collects condensate and equalizes the boiler and trap pressure, enabling the condensate in the trap to flow back to the boiler by gravity. 5, record 13, English, - boiler%20return%20trap

Record number: 15, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The term "feathering" refers to the operation of rotating the blades of a propeller to an edge-to-the-wing position for the purpose of stopping the rotation of the propeller whose blades are thus feathered and to reduce drag. Therefore, a feathered blade is in an approximate in-line-of-flight position, streamlined with the line of flight. Some, but not all, propellers can be feathered. Feathering is necessary when an engine fails or when it is desirable to shut off an engine in flight. The pressure of the air on the face and back of the feathered blade is equal, and the propeller will stop rotating. If it is not feathered when its engine stops driving it, the propeller will "windmill" and cause drag. Another advantage of being able to feather a propeller is that a feathered propeller creates less resistance(drag) and disturbance to the flow of air over the wings and tail of the airplane. 3, record 15, English, - feathered%20propeller

Eddy diffusion broadens the band when passing through the column and detected in the chromatography. This is due to the molecules of the sample traveling through the column along many different paths of different lengths. The shortest path is the front of the band and the longest path is located in the back of the band. This can be corrected if the band is broad and the column support is of small size and uniform. This effect may be described by the van Deemter equation. H=A+(B/u) +Cu. Where M is the flow rate, A is the eddy diffusion term, B/u is the longitudinal diffusion term and Cu is the mass-transfer rate term. Each of the two hydraulic systems for the Douglas DC-9 airplane is provided with an auxiliary, electrically driven, variable-displacement hydraulic pump. The pumps are explosion-resistant, hydraulic-fluid-cooled and lubricated, self-supercharged, and pressure-and horsepower-controlled. They are capable of supplying a nonpulsating flow of hydraulic fluid in varying volume, depending upon system pressure... Control of the pumps is accomplished by means of switches in the flight compartment. If one engine should stop or if the hydraulic pump on that engine should fail, it is merely necessary to turn on the electric pump switch to place the system back in full operation. Each pump is connected to its respective system by means of flexible hoses with a ground power suction disconnect fitting installed in the suction line. upper-air observation. This is a general term, but is usually applied to those observations that are used in the analysis of upper-air charts (as opposed to measurements of upper-atmospheric quantities primarily for research). Among the elements evaluated are pressure, temperature, relative humidity (e.g., by radiosonde aircraft observations), and wind speed and direction (e.g., by rawinsonde, aircraft, or wind profiling radars). Also, some mountain stations are high enough and exposed enough so that their observations may be included in the upper-air network at their elevation. 5, record 38, English, - upper%2Dair%20observation

A valley breeze develops during the day as the sun heats the land surface and air at the valley bottom and sides... As the air heats it becomes less dense and buoyant and begins to flow gently up the valley sides. Vertical ascent of the air rising along the sides of the mountain is usually limited by the presence of a temperature inversion layer. When the ascending air currents encounter the inversion they are forced to move horizontally and then back down to the valley floor. This creates a self-contained circulation system. If conditions are right, the rising air can condense and form into cumuliform clouds. 3, record 43, English, - valley%20breeze

Balanced-pressure proportioners and around-the-pump proportioners are both systems that are built into the apparatus fire pump.... The around-the-pump proportioning system consists of a pickup line on the discharge side of the pump back to the intake side of the pump. An in-line eductor is positioned on this pump bypass. These units are rated for a specific flow and should be used at this rate, although they do have some flexibility. For example, a unit designed to flow 500 gpm(2, 000 L/min) at a 6 percent concentration will flow 1, 000 gpm(4, 000 L/min) at a 3 percent rate. 3, record 47, English, - around%2Dthe%2Dpump%20proportioner
Record number: 47, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Around-the-pump proportioner: This type of proportioner also operates on the venturi principle [as does the "in-line inductor"], except that it must be situated at the pump and connected to both suction and pressure sides. Its advantage is that pressure recovery of the venturi action is attained, and pump delivery pressures to the foam-making device or devices downstream require no compensation for pressure loss except for that in the layout hose length. ... A small portion of the pump discharge flows through a bypass line to the suction side of the pump. A venturi eductor in this line produces a negative pressure on the foam concentrate pickup line from the foam concentrate container. Foam concentrate is led to the eductor where it mixes with water and is delivered to the suction side of the pump. 5, record 47, English, - around%2Dthe%2Dpump%20proportioner

The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber. 2, record 50, English, - liquid%20fuelled%20motor

A supercharger which is located between the carburetor outlet and the intake manifold of the engine is called an internal supercharger. A supercharger thus located serves to provide a uniform distribution of the fuel-air charge to the various cylinders, as well as to increase the density of the charge. Maintaining a high manifold pressure ahead of the intake valves allows the use of "valve overlap" in the engine, so that the intake valve opens just before the exhaust valve closes at the end of the exhaust stroke. This allows the compressed mixture from the intake manifold to scavenge the spent gases out of the clearance volume of the cylinder and also tends to improve the cooling of the exhaust valve. This cooling is of particular importance when operating at "military" or "take-off" power. With no supercharging between the carburetor and the intake valves, "valve overlapping" would permit exhaust gases to flow back into the intake manifold. This would cause backfiring and dilution of the next charge of mixture with burned exhaust gases. 4, record 51, English, - internal%20supercharger
Record number: 51, Textual support number: 1 OBS

The condenser is also a Model no. 06036 shell and tube exchanger, identical to the reboiler with a few modifications : The baffles have been cut at the bottom where they meet the shell to allow condensate to flow out of the shell. The tube side has four passes for maximum heat transfer on the tube side. It is mounted nearly horizontally. The inlet end is a couple of inches higher than the outlet to allow condensate to drain out the low end. A few tubes have been removed at the top to give the vapor more room to distribute itself along the length of the shell. There is a vent on the shell side near the outlet end to allow non-condensable gases to leave. The vent gases pass through the inside of a 36" double pipe condenser so that any condensable gasses will condense out and run down the walls back into the condenser. 2, record 61, English, - double%2Dpipe%20exchanger

The extrusion head used in blow molding is one of three basic styles : the spider or axial flow head, the side feed or radial flow head, and the accumulator head.... The side feed or radial flow head is a design most often used for polyethylene. Melt enters the head from the side, divides around the mandrel, and rewelds. As the melt moves downward, it enters the pressure ring area, creating a tremendous back pressure that helps ensure the resin reweld. The head is used for its simplicity and ruggedness, but has the disadvantage of relatively long color changes. 2, record 63, English, - side%20feed%20head

3, record 68, French, - production%20juste%2D%C3%A0%2Dtemps

Even the smallest rabbitry benefits from an automatic or semi-automatic system. The simplest watering system is semi-automatic. There are two types of valves : the dewdrop valve and the pivoting valve. With a pivoting valve, the stem is on a spring. It bends out of the way during drinking; then swings back to stop the water flow. Pivoting and other spring-loaded valves are less sensitive to line pressure. 1, record 76, English, - pivoting%20valve

The second method uses a line-commutated synchronous inverter. This is a solid-state switching circuit that connects a variable-voltage DC supply(a wind machine with a DC generator) to a 60 Hz source. This device permits a variable portion of a load, depending on the wind available, to be supplied by the DC supply and even allows a flow of energy back into the AC line. 1, record 77, English, - line%2Dcommutated%20synchronous%20inverter

The circulation of heated air between adjacent rooms and different levels can be improved by using vents. Properly located floor vents can assist the natural convection cycle of rising warm air and falling cool air by providing a path. For example, the central stairway in a two-storey home allows warm air to reach the second floor, but circulation is limited because there is little return of displaced air back to the ground floor. Add one or two floor vents near outside walls and the cooler air upstairs will flow down through the vents and back towards the heater. 1, record 78, English, - floor%20vent
