In SGMD [sweeping gas membrane distillation],..., inert gas is used to sweep the vapor at the permeate membrane side to condense outside the membrane module. There is a gas barrier, like in AGMD [air gap membrane distillation], to reduce the heat loss; but this is not stationary, which enhances the mass transfer coefficient. This configuration is useful for removing volatile compounds from aqueous solution. 5, record 1, English, - sweep%20gas%20membrane%20distillation

3, record 1, French, - distillation%20membranaire%20%C3%A0%20entra%C3%AEnement%20gazeux

The subject of mountain meteorology is connected with the broader fields of ecology and geology in several ways. Many of the Earth's deserts are caused by the barrier effects of mountain ranges. Rain forests often occur on windward mountain slopes. Local ocean circulations are influenced by the cold air reaching the sea through mountain passes, and by the freshwater input to the oceans, channeled by the terrain. 3, record 3, English, - mountain%20meteorology

Housewrap, to stick with the most common material used as the liquid water control layer, is a material that can control the flow of liquid water as well as air. It's rarely installed well enough to be a good air barrier, but that's OK because in most homes it's stapled to a material that usually is : plywood or OSB [oriented strandboard]. Housewrap is the material. Controlling liquid water and air are the functions. The standard varieties don’t control water vapor or heat. 2, record 8, English, - housewrap

Geomembrane : The term liner applies when a geomembrane is used as an interface or a surface revetment. The term barrier is usually reserved for the cases where the geomembrane is used inside an earth mass. Geomembrane is a generic term which has been proposed to replace many terms such as : synthetic membranes, polymeric membranes, plastic liners, flexible membrane liners, impermeable membranes and impervious sheets. These terms are not appropriate because :(i) synthetic, polymeric and plastic are too restrictive;(ii) geomembranes are not always used as liners;(iii) flexible membrane is redundant; and(iv) no material is absolutely impermeable or impervious. In addition, many users for these materials habitually designate them with trade names, which adds to the terminology confusion. Geomembranes should not be confused with other similar membranes used for such applications as single-ply roofing, floating covers and air supported roof. Also, geomembranes should not be confused with geotextiles [which are permeable by construction]. 2, record 15, English, - geomembrane

4, record 20, French, - vent%20de%20terre

Its configuration has been planned around the concept of an experimental workstation where a variety of experiments can be installed and operated in a fashion very similar to their operation in a ground-based laboratory. ... Specifically, the facility provides a large enclosed work volume, power, video, photography, vacuum connections, heat rejection, stowage, filtered air, gaseous nitrogen, lighting, airlock access, physical positioning and hold-down attachments, and computer data acquisition and control capabilities. 3, record 22, English, - microgravity%20science%20glovebox

The MSG [Microgravity Science Glovebox] is a containment facility designed for supporting a wide range of microgravity science investigations and demonstrations. In the sealed mode, the MSG serves as a single level of containment by providing a physical barrier. In the air circulation mode the MSG serves as a one failure tolerant containment by providing a physical barrier and a negative pressure relative to the cabin. The MSG further facilitates investigations by providing many of the resources that are typically used by microgravity science investigations. 4, record 22, English, - microgravity%20science%20glovebox

"AirGuard" Float-Type Pressure Tanks.... millions of pumps have been installed with pressure tanks fitted with air volume controls. The sole purpose of the air volume control is to automatically maintain sufficient air in the pressure tanks to allow adequate water pressure where and when wanted and to also prevent too frequent starting and stopping of the pump due to water logging of the tank.... The Myers AirGuard Tank... comes fitted with a semi-rigid float which will control water logging. This air-water barrier floats on the water surface, rising and lowering with the water level in the tank. 1, record 33, English, - %5C%22AirGuard%5C%22%20float%2Dtype%20pressure%20tank

1, record 33, French, - r%C3%A9servoir%20hydropneumatique%20%5C%22AirGuard%5C%22%20du%20type%20%C3%A0%20s%C3%A9parateur

Airtight construction. Any house has a large number of potential air leakage points... These leakage points let cold outside air in, and warm inside air out. As a result, in a conventional house, it is not uncommon for the heated indoor air to be completely changed every half hour. A major potential problem associated with this air change [is] condensation in the building's structure... There is in addition, a second problem : such air change typically accounts for 25-30 per cent of the total house heat loss... The use of an air-vapour barrier is an attempt to prevent these problems by stopping virtually all air leakage. 1, record 38, English, - airtight%20construction

1, record 38, French, - construction%20%C3%A9tanche%20%C3%A0%20l%27air
