The most unusual aspect of the [inner shell photoabsorption] spectrum is that the lowest energy peak, corresponding to the promotion of a ls electron to the first unfilled... orbital, has an area which is much greater(by a factor of the order of 10) than the sum of the areas of all the other discrete peaks below the ionization threshold. This is attributable... to the fact that the [first unfilled] orbital is highly localized, being confined to the vicinity of the molecular core by a centrifugal barrier in its d-wave component. The existence of this barrier is also well known from the work on shape resonances in electron scattering... 2, record 1, English, - shape%20resonance

In the flotation process, clinging of a particle to air-water interphase or to a bubble. Fundamentally, adhesion is the force between two unlike substances ... due to molecular attraction at an interface. 5, record 2, English, - adhesion
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A particle which had its surface fully covered by collector would find it difficult... to cling to an air-water interface completely packed with frother molecules. The incompleteness of adsorption of the contacting phases is an important factor in attachment. Mineralizing contact may result from collision between bubble and particle, from precipitation of gas from water or through a mixed process in which precipitation initiates contact. Tests... showed that attachment on collision with a coursing bubble increases with the density of the particle concerned, which by its greater mass is better able to break through the slipstream or energy barrier surrounding the bubble. Other research supports this by showing how a minute bubble, such as might result from precipitation, initiates bubble attachment or the build-up of a buoyant system.... The available gas also influences the kinetics of attachment. 6, record 2, English, - adhesion

StratSat provides a geo-stationary platform at 20 km altitude capable of remaining on-station for up to five years. Payloads include high speed Internet services, direct broadcast TV, mobile telecommunication, etc. The envelope operates as a super-pressure hull(i. e. with no ballonet pressure control system). The hull will be of laminated fabric construction with Tedlar/Teflon, helium/weather barrier developed from AT-10/04. Multiple catenary curtain system supporting a payload module enclosed completely by the envelope. [The] payload module... comprises a single structural module with an externally mounted payload/mission system. The payload module provides a home for all of the airship's primary systems except for the propulsion system. The systems are close packed within the highly insulated module ensuring efficient heat and energy management. The payload module is pendulum stabilised within the envelope. The solar array provides the sole source of renewable energy for the airship. The array is placed over the upper quarter of the hull and extends over approximately three-quarters of the length of the craft. The array can be realigned to the daily sun location/angle by the roll rotation of the whole airship. The energy collected by the solar array is stored for use during the night in the series of batteries. Located in the stored for use during the night in a series of batteries. Located in the payload module, the batteries run the propulsion system, airship services and provide power to the mission system for up to 14 hours(during winter). The airship is propelled and steered by means of a ’Contra-Rotating Coned Rotor’ mounted on a tailcone at the rear of the envelope, as a part of a compound propulsion system. The unit provides longitudinal thrust(to counter the prevailing stratospheric winds) and lateral force(for manoeuvering) to enable the airship to hold station within a 1 km cube. The airship will be equipped with a multi-channel Flight Control Sy 7, record 5, English, - StratSat%C2%AE

Energetech Australia is building a prototype electricity generator based on wave power on the breakwater at Port Kembla in New South Wales. A submerged chamber is open below the water level. When the waves rise up around the chamber, the water inside the chamber rises and falls with the waves. This compresses and decompresses air above the water in the chamber, creating airflow which drives a turbine. The turbines work with the air flowing in both directions. The blades change angle, depending on the speed and direction of the airflow … An ocean wall in the shape of a parabola concentrates the wave energy onto a central point where the power station is located … The amount of converted energy depends on the wind speed, the time the wind blows over the waves, and the distance it covers. During a wave’s voyage, it shapes into a more regular wave, commonly referred to as a swell. At ocean shores, swells are very regular and discernable, even when the sea is calm. 1, record 8, English, - wave%20energy%20breakwater

There are several different types of photoelectric cells. In some [i. e., phototubes] there is a light-sensitive surface [a photocathode] which emits electrons and a second electrode, usually maintained at a fairly high positive potential, which collects the electrons... A second type is the photovoltaic or barrier layer photocell in which incident light produces an emf between two terminals... Solar cells, widely used to provide energy for satellites and space vehicles, are photovoltaic cells converting radiant energy into electrical energy. A familiar form uses a very perfect silicon crystal which is treated with trace impurities to introduce extra positive charges on one side of a thin wafer and extra negative charges on the other side... Radiant energy disturbs the electrical balance of the charges and thereby induces an emf which continues as long as light strikes the crystal... A third type of photoelectric cell [photoconductive, or photoresistive cell] utilizes the photoconductivity effect. 6, record 13, English, - photoelectric%20receptor

Another high-tech material to come on the packaging scene is silica-coated film. Such "glossy" film provides a superior oxygen and water-vapor barrier that is transparent to microwave energy and is retortable.... everyday Japanese applications of such films include candy, snack and bakery goods packaging at retail, plus bulk food ingredients at the industrial level. 1, record 25, English, - silica%2Dcoated%20film

An activated complex is an unstable, high-energy transition state in a chemical reaction, intermediate between the products and the reactants. Its energy is at the top of the energy barrier that separates the reactants and products of a reaction, or a particular step in a reaction. The reaction will proceed to products when at least this much energy(the activation energy) is supplied. 2, record 26, English, - energy%20barrier

1, record 26, French, - barri%C3%A8re%20d%27%C3%A9nergie

... paperboard with a heat-resistant coating which enables it to withstand conventional oven temperatures, and also permits microwave energy to pass through it. The board, which is typically extrusion coated with clear or white pigmented PET, resists temperatures of up to 400 °F. The coating also creates a continuous moisture barrier, thereby preventing leakage and protecting the contents of the package. 1, record 27, English, - ovenable%20paperboard

Another remaining major barrier to heat transfer in steam cooking has been the condensate that normally forms on the food. Cleveland has overcome this problem with forced convection steam. The turbulent force of the steam literally strokes off the condensate, so the food surface is more accessible to the available heat energy. 1, record 28, English, - forced%2Dconvection%20steam

1, record 28, French, - vapeur%20%C3%A0%20convection%20forc%C3%A9e
