BARRIER THEORY [4 records]

Record 1 2015-03-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

Theory of cyclogenesis according to which an invasion of polar air into the zone of dominant westerlies acts as a barrier to these winds and gives rise to a depression on the side of the invading air downwind from the westerlies, i. e., to the east of the invading air.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
DEF

Record 2 2006-01-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pregnancy
CONT

Further sonographic studies documented the amniotic band sequence(ABS) and transient oligohydramnios in the affected fetus. The latter finding supports the theory of amnion rupture followed by amniotic fluid leakage through an ineffective chorion barrier as the pathogenesis of compression related anomalies in this syndrome.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Grossesse
CONT

Record 3 2001-09-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Pollution
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
CONT

CFCs have been spotlighted as the prime culprits in the destruction of Earth's protective ozone shield. Since the mid 1970s, researchers have charted rising CFC emissions and have tried to link these to changes in stratospheric ozone levels. According to theory, CFCs, as robust ozone depleters, break down this protective barrier, allowing more ultraviolet radiation to reach Earth's surface.

CONT

Non-petroleum-based varsol is safer to use because it does not contain any known carcinogens or ozone-depleting chemicals.

OBS

The terms "ozone killer, eater and scavenger" are popular words.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pollution de l'air
  • Éléments et composés chimiques
DEF

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Contaminación del aire
  • Elementos y compuestos químicos
Key term(s)
  • sustancia que agota el ozono

Record 4 1999-07-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Deposits
DEF

The theory that water, oil, and gas accumulate in the order named, in upbowed strata, provided such a structure contains reservoir rocks in proper relation to source rocks and an impervious barrier.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gisements pétrolifères
DEF
