Ascochyta Blight of Faba Bean. Leaf spots are grey to brown, oval, and up to 1 cm in diameter with definite margins. Small, black pycnidia form in the center of lesions, often in a concentric ring pattern. Leaf spots may merge into irregular black patches causing a blighted appearance. Stem lesions are more elongated, usually sunken and reddish brown. Pod lesions are often sunken, tan to black, and frequently have darker margins. What is washed or wet-processed coffee? This is coffee prepared by removing the skin and pulp from the bean while the coffee fruit is still moist. Most of the world's great coffees are processed by the wet method, which generally intensifies acidity. In the traditional wet process, the coffee skins are removed(pulping), the skinned beans are allowed to sit in tanks where enzymes loosen the sticky fruit pulp or mucilage(fermentation), after which the loosened fruit is washed off the beans(washing). In the more modern shortcut demucilage or aquapulp method, the pulp or mucilage is scrubbed from the beans by machine. 3, record 48, English, - wet%2Dprocessed%20coffee

It was therefore a major landmark in the history of enzyme research when, in 1897, Eduard Buchner succeeded in extracting from yeast cells that enzymes catalyzing alcoholic fermentation. This achievement clearly demonstrated that these important enzymes, which catalyze a major energy-yielding metabolic pathway, can function independently of cell structure. However, it was not until many years later that an enzyme was first isolated in pure crystalline form. This was accomplished by J. B. Sumner in 1926 for the enzyme urease isolated from extracts of the jack bean. Sumner presented evidence that the crystals consist of protein, and he concluded, contrary to prevailing opinion, that enzymes are proteins. 3, record 51, English, - urease

How is coffee decaffeinated? The process begins with a batch of high quality unroasted coffee beans. These beans are soaked in water. Since both the flavor molecules and the caffein molecules of the coffee are water-soluble, the water absorbs the flavor and caffein of the bean. The first batch of beans, exhausted of their flavor and caffeine, is discarded, and the flavor-and caffeine-rich water is run through a carbon filter that removes the caffeine. A new batch of unroasted beans is brought in and soaked in the flavor-rich water. Since the water is already saturated with flavor, only the caffeine of the second batch is absorbed. This results in a second batch of beans that contains all of its original flavor but less of its caffeine. The flavor-rich water can be reused several times to decaffeinate multiple batches of coffee. 1, record 62, English, - decaffeinate

Bean rust(Uromyces phaseoli) is present in every bean-growing area in the world... Although infection occurs mostly on leaves, it can also occur on petioles and pods. In severe cases the stem may also be affected. The first sign of rust infection is the occurrence of many minute white spots that are slightly raised and are often surrounded by a yellow halo. The spots later break open, and a pustule of pale brown spores appears. These are summer spores, which can be spread by wind, tools, insects, and animals, thus infecting other plants. 2, record 80, English, - bean%20rust

2, record 80, French, - rouille%20du%20haricot

Making Chocolate From Magic Beans!... The first step is cleaning. The cocoa beans are passed through a machine that removes dried cocoa pulp, pieces of pod and other extraneous material. The faba bean(Vicia faba minor) is an ancient, cultivated, small-seeded relative of the garden broadbean(V. faba major). It is thought to have originated in west or central Asia. The faba bean is grown mainly in Europe where it is primarily used as a livestock feed, however, it is an important winter crop for human consumption in the Middle East. 4, record 94, English, - faba%20bean

Leafy vegetables take a lot of nitrogen, beans and peas add nitrogen, fruiting vegetables(tomato, pepper, eggplant) soak up phosphorus, and root vegetables use a lot of potassium. So at a particular spot, you might grow a leafy vegetable one year, then a fruiting vegetable, then a root vegetable, then a pea or bean, and finaly back to a leafy vegetable. 1, record 99, English, - fruit%20vegetable

1, record 99, French, - l%C3%A9gume%2Dfruit
