BENDING TENSILE STRENGTH [2 records]

Record 1 2020-03-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Structural Testing (Materials)
  • Structural Framework
CONT

The difference between [the two tensile strength tests] is the location of load application... In center-point loading..., the load is applied at the specimen midspan. In third-point loading, the load is applied at the third points along the test span. For the latter case, the middle third of the beam span is subjected to maximum bending moment, and thus maximum fiber stress.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
DEF

The maximum extreme fibre stress at failure in bending of a test beam. As such it is a measure of the tensile strength of the material.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
DEF

La contrainte maximale de la fibre extrême à la rupture dans le fléchissement d'une poutre d'essai. Ainsi c'est une mesure de la résistance du matériau à la traction.
