In third-point loading, the load is applied at the third points along the test span. Hardness.... With the change to SI units a special hardened steel tool(known as the Janka hardness tool) rounded to a diameter of 11. 3 mm(projected area 100 mm2) is embedded to one-half of its diameter into the(20 mm) test piece. This tool has a device embodying an electrical contact which rings a signal bell when the correct depth of penetration has been reached... The hardness test is performed... on the static bending specimen... there is a very good correlation between the side hardness of timber, as determined by the Janka hardness tool, and its compression strength perpendicular to the grain.

Test for Special Form Radioactive Material.... Bending test : This test is performed only on long slender material with a minimum length of 10 cm and a length to minimum width ratio of not less than 10. The material is rigidly clamped in a horizontal position so that one half of its length protrudes from the face of the clamp. The orientation of the material is such that the package suffers maximum damage when its free end is struck by the flat face of a steel billet. The billet strikes the material so as to produce an impact equivalent to that resulting from a free vertical fall of 1. 4 kg through one metre.
