English

Subject field(s)
  • Landscape Architecture
CONT

Container gardening. Consider planting large containers filled with colorful annual flowers to brighten up dull spots in your landscape or camouflage a bad view. Containers can add height and dimension to a landscape. Bright flowers attract attention and become a focal point, drawing the eye away from a bad view. Thoughtfully placed they can become utilitarian pieces, too. A container can become a decorative flowering barrier, which your neighbors may appreciate more than a fence or a hedge.

OBS

conteneur. Récipient dans lequel on élève les plantes. Les conteneurs se présentent le plus souvent sous forme de pots en matière plastique. Les végétaux en conteneurs sont donc cultivés hors sol. Ce mode de culture présente de nombreux avantages [...]

Record 4 1997-06-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Metallurgy - General
DEF

A wire-drawing process in which the cleaned and pickled wire is drawn dry through a lubricant, as in the drawing of rods. By this process a highly polished surface is produced, and in steel wires the surface finish is known as lime-bright or bright.

CONT

The distinction between dry drawing and wet drawing is that in the latter process steel wire is immersed in a dilute solution of copper sulphate or stannous sulphate or in a mixture of these salts, and, then in fermented rye liquor. From this latter bath the wire is drawn in the wet state. Wet drawn steel wire may have a coppery surface produced by chemical replacement of copper by iron in the sulfate solution.

Record 5 1987-02-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Steel
CONT

bright steels differ from hot shaped steel by the fact that as a result of cold deformation without removal of material(drawing) or by machining on machine tools(for example by scalping), they have a smooth bright surface.

OBS

bright steel: Term standardized by CEI.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Acier
CONT

les aciers clairs se différencient des aciers façonnés à chaud par le fait que par suite d'une déformation à froid sans enlèvement de matière (étirage) ou par usinage sur machines-outils (par exemple par écroûtage), ils présentent une surface lisse et claire.

OBS

acier clair: Terme normalisé par la CCE.
