The Canadian Police Canine Association was formed in 1978 by several dog handlers who were interested in seeing how their counterparts were performing in the same job as themselves. The Sikhs believe that where five of them meet together there is the Guru present in their midst. Every member of the Khalsa must carry the five symbols of the brotherhood, called kakkas, as the name of each begins with the letter "k". These are kesh(uncut hair), kangha(comb), kirpan(actual or symbolic sword), kachs(short trousers worn under outer clothes), and kara(steel bracelet worn on right wrist).
