English

Subject field(s)
  • Winches
  • Search and Rescue (Paramilitary)
CONT

The beauty of the helicopter as a rescue aircraft is the ability to be able to lift casualties from the scene and take them to safety. To do this, the ideal gear is a rescue hoist with cable and hook...

DEF

Manually operated winch capable of very fine adjustment, used in rescue situations such as realignment of steering wheels, car seats or stabilizing a vehicle.

DEF

A hand-operated winch of varying capacity, used for forcible entry.

OBS

Winch. A mechanism arranged to hoist by manual or mechanical power through the medium of a rope, cable, etc., winding on a drum is a winch... The hand power is applied at a crank or cranks, which are attached to a shaft bearing a pinion gear. This pinion engages with a large gear attached to the winding drum... A high-capacity winch may have a double reduction gear, instead of the single gear illustrated.

OBS

hand-operated winch: term and definition standardized by ISO.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Springs (Mechanical Components)

CONT

The left rudder would operate normally since the RH [right-hand] nosewheel steering tube assembly could still operate in the compression mode. Furthermore, in this condition, the automatic centring action of the nose gear as the aircraft lifted off would have resulted in the application of two to four degrees of left rudder deflection. This is due to the left-hand rudder centring spring taking up the slack introduced in the right-hand rudder cable by the right-hand rudder pedal being moved aft of its normal position due to the shortened length of the RH nosewheel steering tube assembly.

OBS

centering spring: term officially approved by the Aeronautical Terminology Standardization Committee (ATSC) - Helicopters.

CONT

CONT

The nose gear uplock release mechanism provides a mechanical means for upsetting the nose gear overcenter linkage and releasing the nose gear from the uplocked position when hydraulic pressure is not available to extend the gear. The uplock release mechanism consists of a cable, cable sector, shaft, return spring, and upset arm.

CONT

The uplock release mechanism and pressure can are installed on the pressure bulkhead above the nosegear strut. Part of the mechanism is installed inside the pressure can and is accessible through the floor panel under the rudder pedals in the forward part of the flight compartment. The external portion of the mechanism is accessible through the nosegear doors.
