Improved methods of using explosives have... been developed. In the marine version one is called Aquaseis. This employs detonating cord in lengths of 100 ft or so. The bubble effect is very much reduced, and as the cord is strung out horizontally in the direction of the recording cable, there is cancellation of noise in the horizontal direction and reinforcement in the direction of the reflections.

A cable composed of a fiber bundle or single fiber, strength members, and a cable jacket.

CONT

Fiber optic cable is used to connect high speed telephone and computer networks. This "wire" is not made of metal, but instead uses special glass, plastic or ceramic filaments to guide the light to a certain destination. It too permits very rapid data exchange, and is especially resistant to transmission noise.
