[A device that] uses the motion of ocean surface waves to create electricity. 1, record 2, English, - Pelamis%20wave%20energy%20converter
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The machine is made up of connected sections which flex and bend as waves pass; it is this motion which is used to generate electricity. … The Pelamis device consists of a series of semi-submerged cylindrical sections linked by hinged joints. The wave-induced relative motion of these sections is resisted by hydraulic cylinders which pump high pressure oil through hydraulic motors via smoothing hydraulic accumulators. The hydraulic motors drive electrical generators to produce electricity. Power from all the joints is fed down a single umbilical cable to a junction on the sea bed. Several devices can be connected together and linked to shore through a single seabed cable. 1, record 2, English, - Pelamis%20wave%20energy%20converter

Developed by the Scottish company Pelamis Wave Power (formerly Ocean Power Delivery), it was the world’s first commercial scale attempt to generate electricity into the grid from offshore wave energy and the first attempt to use wave generated electricity in a commercial wave farm project … 1, record 2, English, - Pelamis%20wave%20energy%20converter

1, record 2, French, - convertisseur%20Pelamis

An oil rig is a contraption which makes a hole in the ground to allow one to retrieve profitable quantities of oil or gas. It may be as simple as a hammer and a basket lowered on a cable(a "cable tool", still used... in some parts of West Virginia), but since 1900 a "rig" refers to a rotary drilling rig, wherein a bit is screwed onto the bottom of some pipe, and the pipe is turned at the surface("rotary") and the whole "drill string" drills a hole into the ground. 5, record 4, English, - oil%20rig
