CABLE PAIR [19 records]

Record 1 2017-12-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Telephone Wires and Cables
DEF

A cable network architecture wherein optical fibres radiate outwards from the head end or a point on a fibre-ring(a "node") to local networks serving a neighbourhood or subdivision. This is similar to the "switched-star" architecture of telephone systems-however, in the telephone case, each wire(twisted pair) serves an individual subscriber.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Câbles et fils téléphoniques
DEF

DEF

An insulating base or slab equipped with terminals for connecting wiring.

CONT

A terminal strip is made of a strong insulating material with metal studs molded into the material or inserted through it. The studs are anchored so that they cannot turn and are of sufficient length to accommodate four terminals. Between each pair of studs are barriers to prevent cable terminals attached to different studs from coming into contact with each other. When it is necessary to join more than four terminals at a terminal strip, two or more of the studs are connected with a metal bus, and the terminals are then connected to the studs with no more than four terminals on any one stud.

OBS

French

Domaine(s)
  • Appareillage électrique

DEF

OBS

Le terme «bornier», court et maniable, est l'équivalent parfait de «terminal board» et «terminal strip» lorsqu'il n'est pas important de connaître la forme de l'élément. Ce dernier est alors nommé seulement d'après sa fonction.

OBS

DEF

A system bringing fiber optic cables and telecommunications services to residential subscriber premises.

CONT

Fiber to the home (FTTH) is a fiber optic communication delivery form where the fiber extends from a central office to the boundary of a home living space or business office. Once it reaches the home or business office, the signal is conveyed throughout the space using coaxial cable, wireless, optical fibers or power line communication.

OBS

The main benefit of fiber to the home is providing faster connection speeds and higher carrying capacity than twisted pair conductors, coaxial cable, or digital subscriber line(DSL).

Fiber to the curb(FTTC) is a telecommunications system based on fiber-optic cables run to a platform that serves several customers. Each of these customers has a connection to this platform via coaxial cable or twisted pair. The "curb" is an abstraction and can just as easily mean a pole-mounted device or communications closet or shed. Typically any system terminating fiber within 1, 000 ft(300 m) of the customer premises equipment would be described as FTTC.

CONT

FTTB(fiber to the building...) is a form of fiber-optic communication delivery that necessarily applies only to those properties that contain multiple living or working spaces. The optical fiber terminates before actually reaching the subscribers living or working space itself, but does extend to the property containing that living or working space. The signal is conveyed the final distance using any non-optical means, including twisted pair, coaxial cable, wireless, or power line communication.

Used in the audio recording and sound reinforcement fields, an audio multicore cable(most commonly known as a snake cable or just a snake) is a compact cable, typically about the diameter of a coin, which contains from 4 to 56 individual shielded pair microphone cables all housed by one rugged, heavy-duty common outer jacket. Each end of the multicore cable terminates in a "tail, "which contains either a patchbay for female XLR or 1/4" jacks or male plugs.

There are five components on a full string of cable tool drilling equipment : a drill bit or shoe, a drill stem, drilling jars, a swivel socket, and a cable. The drill bit transmits the force to the earth. The drill stem is the longest section, and it connects the bit to the drilling jars. The drilling jars are like a pair of links in a chain and are used to jar the drill bit free of the formation. The swivel socket connects the rest of the drill tools to the cable.

CONT

A swivel socket [is used] to connect the cable to the tools and enable the cable to unwind.

Continuous wave ported coaxial sensors, regardless of whether they use codirectional or contradirectional coupling, detect the intruder's presence and identify the sensor zone affected, but they do not identify the intruder's position along the cable length.
