Tracheal cartilages hold the trachea permanently open(patent), but the soft tissue bands in between the cartilages allow flexibility so that the head and neck can move freely without obstructing or kinking the trachea. The absence of cartilage posteriorly allows the trachea to dilate and constrict in response to nerve stimulation, and for indentation as the oesophagus distends during swallowing. 2, record 1, English, - tracheal%20cartilage

3, record 63, French, - chondrocalcinose%20articulaire

An osteochondral bar is a degenerative overgrowth of tissue. When the spine has abnormal pressure of movement of a vertebral segment, the disc, joint, and vertebra will start to degenerate. The disc can either lose height and water content virtually drying up, or bulge outward from its normal position. The joint/vertebra will start to lay down more bone which results in spurs and overgrowth that can create these "bars" of tissue that are comprised of cartilage(chondral) and bone(osteo). 1, record 84, English, - osteochondral%20bar

Osteoarthritis is a form of non-inflammatory arthritis, which is caused by the breakdown of cartilage, which covers and protects bones. Often due to "wear and tear", pain and swelling can occur when the cartilage breaks down. Eventually, the cartilage may wear away entirely and bones will rub together. 7, record 85, English, - osteoarthritis

degenerative joint disease (DJD); degenerative arthritis: [Osteoarthritis] has always been classified as a noninflammatory arthritis; yet, there is increasing evidence for inflammation occurring with cytokine and metalloproteinase release into the joint. 5, record 85, French, - arthrose

Rickets and osteomalacia are diseases characterized by defective bone and cartilage mineralization in children and bone mineralization in adults. The abnormal calcification of cartilage occurs at epiphyseal growth plates, which also exhibit delayed maturation of the cartilage cellular sequence and disorganization of cell arrangement.... The clinical features of rickets, although variable to some degree according to the underlying disorder, are primarily related to skeletal pain and deformity, bone fractures, slipped epiphyses, and abnormalities of growth. In addition, hypocalcemia, when present, may be severe enough to produce tetany, laryngeal spasm, and seizures. In infants and young children, symptoms include listlessness, irritability, and, in some forms of metabolic rickets, profound hypotonia and proximal muscle weakness. 1, record 93, English, - rickets

A small length of magnetized steel wire, etched with a binary code and injected into the nasal cartilage of salmonides or the muscle tissue of crustaceans. 2, record 96, English, - coded%20wire
Record number: 96, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Juvenile salmonids have been tagged with coded wires in northwestern North America for about 20 years ... By this method, a 1-mm length of wire is given a binary code and inserted with an injector into the nasal region of a young fish. The adipose fin is removed and the tagged fish are then released for their seaward migrations. The returning adults are identified by the missing adipose fin. Their snouts are then removed and passed through a magnetometer to locate the wire, which is removed and decoded. A dissection microscope is used to decode the binary notching on the wire. 3, record 96, English, - coded%20wire
