[The Boxer cartridge was] invented in 1865 by the … Chief of British Ordnance, Colonel Boxer … The Boxer cartridge case, instead of being made of solid drawn copper, was formed by rolling a thin brass plate around a mandrel, and after soldering, attaching an iron base to it.
